Real Betis

I'm fed up with this its only a friendly it doesn't matter. The next will be its only the first league match against Cardiff it doesn't matter. Beginning to look like our sights will be lower than 2017-18 which was lower than 2016-17. We need to have a winning mentality not a lets save ourselves for later attitude.
What a load of absolute nonsense. It IS only a friendly

We have two camps on this MB and probably amongst our fans, those that are bothered with friendlies and those that don’t.

That won’t change.

Getting a result or at least a point against Cardiff is important.

They were in a position to make 9 subs

Our 9 are trotting out tomorrow

This set of friendlies are pointless as a gauge on how we will perform against Cardiff.....I just hope we have a behind the doors first eleven friendly so dont look like a bunch of dinlos ..as we usually do.

Agree with this - How many times do you hear "we made loads of mistakes but at least it was friendly". Why can't we just not make silly mistakes in the first place, we are a prem team afterall. When we always get kicked out of the cup by league 1 sides it's always "but the focus is on the league" only to go an lose momentum and lose in the league anyway.
Why can't we just put out the team that are going to start against Cardiff and try and get some confidence!
The again if we beat Cardiff all will be forgotten :)

At least BadKeeper wont come on talking shite about Begovic any time soon.

I hope we end up playing a first 11 tomorrow (L.Cook?) and that it ends up being the side that starts the season to get some understanding going. Tonight looked a mess.

How can tomorrow be a first 11 ?
Makes you wonder if Arter and Cook will start against Cardiff. Eddie, while he chops his sides for friendlies, maintains partnerships.
King has mainly been with Wilson, Ake with Steve Cook.

I hope so.

Arter and Cook didn't look a partnership tonight....thought Cook looked out of sorts without Surman next to him.

Seriously, friendlies are not about the result at all. They are about preparing the team. League games are important; cup games are important; friendlies are not important and never will be.

The proof is in the pudding and if we beat Cardiff and generally start well then all this criticism of team changes and double-header friendlies looks a bit silly.

Real Betis are playing a friendly at Cardiff tomorrow - so I suspect most of those who came on for them will start their game tomorrow, Be interesting to compare how Cardiff get on against them.

We didn’t really learn anything from that other than we were better with a back 3.

Arter isn’t good enough (but tried hard), Ibe & Mousset are good in patches but unreliable and we are much better with King & Aké in the XI. So all stuff we already knew...

Oh and a Lerma type player would make a massive difference to our midfield!

We didn’t learn much from tonight’s game apart from being given a lesson from Betis on possession football and if their finishing had been better, we could have been 4-0 down at half time. Apart from that we didn’t create hardly any clear cut chances on goal which was very disappointing and perhaps showed our lack of quality in depth regards the squad. Hopefully tomorrow Eddie will select a team to make us proud.

What really was the point of that. Our first eleven against Cardiff won't have played together as an eleven, These four friendlies with split teams on friday/saturday are pointless other than getting some players to have played for 90 minutes.

I absolutely agree. It’s bizarre, we don’t appear to have learned anything from last year’s close season and the resultant faltering start.

Having said that we’ll probably now win our first dozen games!
