Summer transfer rumours

...still heard a week or so back that Mepham was in our plans for another bid?...seems that this Lerma saga has taken over and Levante are having much fun roping us in...we must be able to get in someone (or two decent) if we are willing to splash around £27 million!

I think the Mawson move to Fulham may help us set a ceiling on Brentford's ambitions there. Reported as £15 million potentially rising to £20 million. Still only 24, he's got the British premium on his value, has two PL season's under his belt and has even made it into the England squad.

Given that, Brentford may struggle to make the case that Mepham is already a £20 million player which is the chatter from their lot when Mawson was being touted as maybe moving for £25 million.

It's pretty obvious they don't want to sell so, as with Lerma, it may come down to the player. If he makes a clear indication he wants to move, either privately to the manager or through the more public transfer request route, then it'll probably happen. Otherwise I think it may drift away.

If I'm honest, if I was him I'm not sure I'd be sold on being backup to Simon Francis for (at least) a season when I could be first choice in a top half Championship team. However, he's exactly the type of player we need to move along the succession planning so I hope he comes.

Leicester have reportedly bid £15 million for Mepham. I guess they're expecting a Harry Maguire shaped hole in their defence later this week and making moves to fill it in advance.

Could this be another Demarai Gray where we end up regretting not paying the asking price, even if it seemed exorbitant at the time, and Leicester benefit?

I fear so.

As opposed to where we moan that we're paying too much?

True. However, there aren't too many players that we've pursued over more than one window and had multiple bids rejected. Gray being the only other one of which I can think offhand.

After Lerma, no more inward transfers for AFCB according to Neil Perrett...

The imminent signing of Jefferson Lerma is likely to be #afcb's last of the transfer window. #famouslastwords

So expect Eddie to go for Mepham on transfer deadline day.

Not sure we'd really want to bring in any more than this anyway, don't want to upset the balance of the squad.
Even with our younger players getting better, we would already have been a better side than last year. The signings we've made only give us more depth and make us even better. So I'm happy as things stand in terms of additions.
We probably should sell or loan a few players though as we have too many genuinely good players who won't get playing time.

What’s the chances of Eddie bring Danny Ings back, even if on loan

I just don't see a place for him in the squad. We have 3 'lead the line' strikers in King, Defoe and Wilson. We also have King playing in behind as well as the option of Mousset and now Brooks. Who would Ings displace?

Sure, it's always good to improve the squad but I don't think this one would, especially as a loan. It just isn't a position that needs more budget on unless someone is sold.
