The statement we’ve all been waiting for

Back in the day the old Dean Court stadium had to be replace money was on the horizon from an ITV deal. The deal didn't happen but the club were committed into the new ground which ended up a 3 sided bleak unfinished set of stands and a pitch. You know the rest funded by its the fans and yes Jeff who has been repaid (the only one) handsomely.

That is where we came from on the promise of tv revenues in the future. I hope this adds a bit of context.

Didn't the 'Remainers' say we weren't getting big enough attendances to justify a fourth stand?

Just proving that if you have a bigger ground you will attract bigger attendances.

We ran out of money then Rob. The fans paid for Eddie and then the fans built the first attempt of the 4th side. In fact the fans did a lot of things around the club, like the ST with the disabled lift project, to keep the balls up in the air.

As we all know the ground is not a sound investment so only works if he decides to fund it.

Don't know if this has been raised.

Spending 40 million on a new ground may, on paper, not stack up.

But it would add more than 50 million to the net worth of the AFCB package/brand when it comes to be sold.

Just as long as we carry on developing on the pitch as we are currently.

It just shows a short term/short sighted attitude rules at AFCB and a fantastic lack of ambition.

Go on fill your boots while you can, you scumbags.

I can understand to a certain extent the complex issues with the stadium build in Kings Park but the training ground is rather baffling. Turning a golf course into training pitches and adding a few buildings can hardly be a cash buster.
Hope they don't flog it off for housing or gravel extraction!

Its only the Premier League where tv revenue is more important to clubs than through the turnstiles.
So that's it then. We have peaked as a football club. Over the last few seasons I have been sick of hearing the supporters of the so called big clubs calling us tinpot and saying we will eventually return to our rightful place in league 1. That's it then. When we eventually go down we will not be considered a big club in the championship or even league 1.
What a legacy the board are leaving .

Change of subject but did I imagine it or are Brighton building 600 houses and an ikea in Shoreham?

It wouldn't if we went back to league 1 and were only averaging 6k per game anyway, probably wouldn't add much atall to the net worth as it would just be a asset that could never be resold with high maintenance costs.
Would cost a lot more than 40 million aswell, Brightons cost 90 million 10 years ago.

I am very disappointed, but not entirely surprised, that the stadium project looks to have been shelved. I am perplexed and very worried by the lack of progress on the training ground because, without that at least, I cannot see why Eddie and Jason would want to stay.

But I have to say that I cannot believe the level of entitlement on this board. Max took a multi million pound risk in funding us through the L1 and Championship period and in standing by Eddie through the injury crisis and difficulties of the first year in the PL. Even a cursory look at the accounts and playing budget shows that almost all the TV money is being made available for the playing side and not being siphoned off to pay Directors' loans. Fair play to Max if he doesn't want to put any more of his own money on the line. Without him we would be lucky to be Swindon.

Agreed - you only have to look at Blackpool to see how bad things could have been

FFS the actual figures are irrelevant, spend 100 million and the day it opens we have an asset that adds at least 100 million to the value of the club and if the club continues to be successful on and off the pitch and we build our 'brand' then Max can sell the club for a shed load more than the actual bricks and mortar value.

How much is a stable EPL club with a half decent ground and training pitches, in one of the most sought after areas of the UK, worth?

West Ham, 754 million.

And they don't even own their ground.

I would totally get the entitlement argument BUT for the fact that it wasn't the fan base calling for a new stadium in the first place.

A cheap and cheerful south end development, that added just a few thousand, only marginally more complex than a stand that Barnet had recently built by the same company we got the plans from, had us very happy when it was first put forward 3 years ago. Indeed I'd still be pretty pleased with that now if it could happen. If Barnet can do it?

It was the club themselves that caught us all by surprise by announcing their intention to build a new stadium, and then later announce that new stadium would be in Kings Park. It was pretty much the wildest dreams that we could have asked, but it certainly wasn't being demanded.

Exactly this! We're an injury crisis away from being a Championship club with a tiny ground. Net value comparable to Yoevil plus the file sale of £200M worth of players for a fraction of that.

Hmmm so we don't have the money to build a new stadium, but many on here are advocating we spend money we haven't got, including one doom and gloom person, who also reckons, we are already overspending!
Yes I'm disappointed, and why can't we add 5k to out current stadium. But bottom line is the gate receipts are minimal compared to tv money.
Sad though that more can't watch the greatest team in our history

Cant see your logic....how does a ground costing 100 mill. Put a 100 mill on the value of the club ? ....especially if we were in Div 1, who would pay that sort of money ?

Yeah if we remain in the premier league then it's probably a good investment, chances of us remaining in the premier league are probably low though. If we get relegated then the 100 million ground will no longer add 100 million to the value of the club.

I'd love to have a new ground but clearly the owners don't see it as a good investment, they have to do what's best for their business, not run it like a charity.

Oh Christ.

We're owned by a Russian billionaire and a US hedge fund.

It would be an investment on which they could see a return when they sold.

If we go down they've lost some of their investment, if we don't they sell and fill their boots.

Eddie will be gone by next August.
