Lukas Nmecha

Two strikers left last summer. Defoe won't be here much longer - I'd have thought - leaves us a bit light. We need a better pair of second choice strikers.

If this is true it would be interesting to know what has impressed Eddie during his loan period as the stats don't sound too good i.e. 12 Games, 9 starts taken off 7 times, 50% of shots on target with no goals & just 1 assist.
Obviously the lad does have a lot of talent but unsure that this loan to PNE is adding a lot to his current value.

David Brookes wasn't pulling up trees either. IIRC.

Sorry?? 19 years old, played about 30 matches in the Champs, goals, assists, multiple motm awards including the steel city derby, goes to Toulon in the same side as Lewis Cook wins tournament and is named player of the tournament, goes on to play for full Wales side and wing motm awards at that level too

Now maybe that's not "pulling up trees" by your standards but I think maybe you're a difficult man to please

In fairness he only had 9 Championship starts. He’s already on more than that for us in the Premier League.

I know it was down to illness but it’s fair to say to many he was an unknown with a big fee.

He's so good that he can get Championship starts for us in the Premier League ;)

But yeah, I was underwhelmed with the links to Brooks, based on his stats and appearances, without really knowing anything about him. Remember that Howe saw something in King too; his stats were very poor in the championship. If there's something to this guy that EH likes, its probably a good sign.

Admittedly when I saw the name I didn't know much either, I'd recalled he was in that Toulon tournament. The stats are useful and I used to use whoscored all the time to 'prove' points (especially about Surman) but also found twitter was great at setting what people actually thought of potential signings

I just meant he wasn't well known or was scoring 30 a season or something. I don't think we even had much competetion to sign him.

Point being that this lad is similar, so maybe he's another gem.

I shall try harder in future.

I don't think anyone was particularly excited by the Brooks signing or could have predicted he would do so well, except Eddíe maybe

incorrect

I was very excited as Tottenham wanted him too and it was only illness that disrupted his season. I think most felt he would be like Lewis cook and take a season or so before becoming a first team regular so the speed of his progress is the only surprise. I expect junior being injured plus Ibe and cook perhaps not on full form pre-season helped propel him to the first team.
