Harry Arter

Aging crowd, limited new blood especially the younger ones getting in. The atmosphere is only going to get worse.

Throw in the fact that you have to have a battle with the PA system to generate any atmosphere before kick off and that too will have a knock on affect.

Where I sit in the north Stand its the old'uns that make all the noise - the youngsters just don't seem to get involved like when I was in my teens

Where I sit just to the NS side of where Eddie is, the noise from the away fans sounds at times as if it is coming from the Ted Mac stand.

I think we have become a little bit complacent tbh. We used to roar teams from behind when the premier league was a novelty. A lot of people were sitting on their hands in peace on Sunday second half. It took Lerma's post shot to wake people up.

Apart from SDD who kept shouting 'shite' at him for not getting it on target. ;)

In my mid forties now and have to say only occasionally sing / chant as required!
But back in the day we’d sing non stop - right side of the South Stand , New Stand now and then , coach , train , every away match , “ Sing yer heart out for the lads “ - great times .
Part of I think is that back in the 80!s and early 90’s you went to the game as there were barely any highlights and we certainly were never live on tv- hardly any games we’re back then ...
The PL has been sanitised for years - our best atmospheres have been during the rise up from League 2 ...now we’re as quiet as everyone else for the most part .
If we’re live on the tv I’d still go to the match if I can , but many think “ nah I’ll just watch it at home instead “ which is odd .

The age factor makes no odds.....you get noisy oldies and noisy youngsters...depends on personality....younger fans boosting future attendances is obviously slightly more important for the club but let's not get carried away with that DJ....that will take care of itself if we stay up and get Stadia Sated and us oldies pop upstairs!
I've always had the impression since the 60s, even before the prawn sarny element edged into football and DC that our crowd are too quiet.
The Dell and Fratton always had more atmosphere....however St Mary's is awful, far worse than us! The last time I was at Palace and Swansea...that's what I want to hear....and as stated Cardiff now.

Everyone is forgetting the simple maths factor... Most grounds in the PL will have at last 17/18k home fans cheering them on...

We have 8k at best... I'm sure if you doubled our home support instantly, then we'd get a fair bit more noise.

But yes, agree with Garbo... Sound just doesn't travel at DC and there are too many in the NS that simply don't want to get involved...

I remember watching MNF a couple of years go and Neville and Carragher did an in-depth analysis (yes honestly!) of our crowd noise in THAT Liverpool match.

When it went 1-3 Liverpool and they were knocking it about nicely they showed the East Stand looking glum. Then Wee Man pulled a goal back and everyone was off their feet and the noice level went up tenfold. From the kickoff, Liverpool made a complete mess of it and a minute or so later, a defender made a rash foul which eventually led to the equaliser.

The point they made was even 11k at DC could really unsettle a top Champions League side into panic mode. I think a similar thing happened in the Arsenal win last season. Its a shame we couldn't get the noise level back on Sunday, but its also true Arsenal have a lot more composure in their game now.

The drummer in Ted Mac leads the way God bless him.

Without that it would be a morgue. I always sing and aim to leave a match sounding like Rod Stewart after gargling a shattered pint pot, but nowadays I can often be one of very few.

Many of our supporters seem out of place, almost embarrassed to be seen displaying passion. Has someone been slipping bromide into the drinking water in West Dorset?

I don't buy the acoustics or ground capacity excuse at all. Sure they play a part and improving them would help but I have been at some noisy games at the new DC with fewer fans than we get now. I've also seen a fair few games on TV since we've been in the PL and when the crowd get going it really comes across. But recently it's more than that, it's like everyone has forgotten they're in a football stadium or what a SUPPORTer is.

he's certainly made an impression up there, lots of positive comments like these

"For me its no question he is our best player, the first name on the team sheet and I think its madness that he isn’t played anywhere other than central midfield where he can dictate play."

"That's the best news I've heard this season. I don't think I've ever seen a better player at Cardiff City. Of course we could afford him. If things go right this season then we'll have a lot more money for players ,and that's all part of the plan. Any chance we could give him a HUGE cheer when his name is announced this week"
