Lermas bookings.

Serious question.
When lerma gets booked against Watford and receives a 2 match ban, is that 2 league games or does f.a. cup count as well.

FA cup is seperate this season.

So I dont understand why we rested him when he cannot have the slate clean until April?

I would assume that, given the pressure we were likely to be under, they couldn't really envisage him not getting a yellow today and decided having him available for Watford was more important.

True, he will get the two match ban soon but hopefully after we've reversed momentum.

I reckon there’s a very high chance we will see a card vs Watford, then can sit out the Brighton game (which he would of done anyway) and only miss the Everton league game, by which time Gosling should be back. I cannot think of any other possible reason for leaving him out today

I thought this was the case too but it isnt. All that changed is any bookings in cup matches dont count against PL. So if Jeff got booked against BHA for example, he would still be able to play at Everton.

A booking against Watford (now guaranteed!) will mean he will miss BHA and Everton

Slightly embarrassing that we have to even have this conversation about a grown man getting 9 bookings in 15 games.

I agree, he is a quality player but the fact Eddie cannot play him in games knowing that he's likely to get booked just shows poor discipline. Not saying he would have changed the game today, far from it but the fact he's got too 9 bookings so quickly must be a disappointment to Eddie.

That’s a little harsh. At least 2 or 3 bookings have been unwarranted. And at least another 2 or 3 have been as a result of being stitched up by suicide passes from teammates.

I’m obviously not saying there isn’t room for improvement in his discipline. But he absolutely isn’t a dirty player. Compare his fouls to some of the tackles Arter has been putting in for Cardiff. I’d rather have a player who takes one for the team than a player who lazily allow opponents to run past him too.

Nailed on for Player’s Player of the Year IMO

This is, reading between the lines, I think what EH said in the post match interview.

Unless we're willing to play Ake in his favoured position we only have Surman with Lerma as backup in the DM/CM position.

3 years ago he favored it, and only because he thought it would get him into the side faster, anyone asked him recently, he's not been complaining has he

This is correct. I can see why people find it slightly confusing but all you need to do is look back to August.

Adam Smith got sent off against Everton, served his suspension v MK Dons in the cup, then returned for the next PL match

Embarrassing ? Not sure I'd use that word,
A number of his bookings he's got because he's had to commit a professional foul to prevent a breakaway and ultimately thats the position he plays and his role to break up play dictates that he'll get more than his fair share,
Not ideal but hardly embarrassing

Not having a winter break like in Spain and Italy has cost us big time in injuries. I know we love the Boxing Day and New Years fixtures but the intensity of the premier league is definitely taking its toll.

Injuries can happen any time. We play less games than in the championship. Those not on international duty often get 2 weeks off. It would certainly help the club's in European competition though.

We'll see how it helps the non-international players in 2022.

The fact the bloke can not hide his aggression is embarrassing. Much more than any other player in the league. Facts point to it and it’s selfish since Eddie is forced to bench him
