Can u doubt the boards commitment

All the doubters on here, can we doubt the boards commitment with another serious investment already in this transfer window.
Of the bottom half of the premier league who have backed their manager like ours?

Very positive and different to palace as an example.....but let’s just wait and see if there any departures in January!

It is indeed very encouraging!
However, I would imagine that not having to pay all of Defoe's wages has cleared up some space.

I wouldn't say 1 new defender and an unproven striker is a serious commitment....when we needed at least 2 proper and permanent defenders to replace ageing and long term injured!
Defoe gone is a good move considering his lack of appearances over 2 years.

Commitment - a willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm decision to do something

I think it takes very little time or energy for the back office to allocate a budget to EH's team to acquire playing staff. I doubt much time and energy has been put into making the back office as lean as it could be in order to increase the budget.

I also think the same back office promised or gave us a firm decision for training grounds and stadium. With, by all accounts, very little evidence of time and energy dedicated to it culminating in a very weak, wishy-washy, late cop out.

When it comes to "investment" in the squad. I think it's as simple as we've had stable on-field management for years whereas other clubs haven't. Established clubs' budgets are filled with wages and sacked managers' payoffs, new clubs have spent 100's of millions in the last season or so already.

The more we invest in players the further away the training pitches and stadium become in my opinion. I don't believe we can do both and I don't believe that the owners have any intention of trying to do both.

The Board’s commitment to what though?

Buying players? Yes on the surface they have shown commitment. I say on the surface because none of us really know what is going on behind the scenes. If, for example, there is firm interest in Callum, to the extent that he will be leaving, then the acquisition of Solanke would be more a replacement than a commitment from the Board. If this is not the case then the Board has shown commitment.

Building for the future sustainability and growth of the club? No they have not shown commitment. As far as I can see there is no long term strategy and investment plan. Irrespective of the stadium, I cannot understand why there is no apparent commitment to the development of a training facility, as such infrastructure is surely fundamental to the long-term sustainability and success of the club.

This. Absolutely. Unless we plan to sell Wilson (in which case not a net investment anyway), the signing of a striker for 19m isn't nearly as necessary for our long term growth as investment in infrastructure.

Investment in players can show a profitable cash return.
Investment in a new stadium and training ground is a substantial investment, with very little cash return and certainly no profit.

So unless you have billions ££££ and don’t mind 'throwing away' the odd £100m loose change, what should the directors spend the PL money on? They’ve chosen player investment.

Remember it’s very easy to spend other people’s money!

Staff stability, including managers, is such an important part of success for 'smaller' clubs. Big clubs can buy success (or their way out of trouble), but having managerial stability and no pay - offs is an excellent alternative for teams with less money to spend as long as they build a squad. You can't deny Eddie and Jason have been successful. Highest points tally at this point in the season ever. And some exciting games and results....

Yes, it's a huge shame about delays for a new stadium etc, but AFCB are still going places I think and do have a strategy, it may just be longer term. For the meantime, I'm just hoping that we get a few more decent results under our belt and continue to move up the table and finish higher than we have previously.

True, but if we don't invest in new facilities now, when raking in millions in TV money, when will we?!

It all just feels incredibly short-sighted, but we've discussed this to death on other threads I know.
Yes true. It's so frustrating. I'm sure Eddie and Jason feel it too.

Not necessarily, first and foremost any stadium development hinges on premier league survival, that can only be done by rebuilding the team which is the process that Eddie is in, hence the current business priority is players.
The training ground and stadium need to come no doubt, but Max and the Americans obviously dont have the clout to underwrite the millions in debt to build it,
We may just have to be patient and hope (trust ?) that longer term plans are in place,
For me, build the training ground, buy back the current ground (albeit at a somewhat inflated price) then develop it up to it's maximum capacity (16-18 thousand ?) and hopefully theres our legacy

So what do you suggest? We don't spend money and try to stay in the Prem and push for Europe? What goes on on the pitch comes before any new piles of bricks imo

The club has done nothing to suggest to me that it is not in safe hands. If they think that we should be investing in the playing squad rather than the infrastructure then that's good enough for me. I have no idea why people think they know how to spend millions of pounds that isn't their money more then people who do this for a living.

I must admit the lack of development on infrastructue does put some degree of doubt in my mind. If it is a case of the money going into the squad then thats fair enough. However Solanke may feel like a serious investment now but I believe Wilson will be sold, probably not in January but if there is interest from the likes of Chelsea in the summer unfortunately I am sure he will be off, then you have to question is Solanke an investment or an easy replacement.

Who has suggested that the club is not in safe hands, certainly not the o/p? This thread is about the commitment of the Board.

This is a football forum, it invites discussion and comment, which is why people express their views. And don't assume that because someone does a job for living that they necessarily know what they're doing.

Yes ! Without realizing you’ve hit the nail on the head “ do this for a living” . So yeah a commitment ..to make money . As for calling a new ground “ a pile of bricks” give your head a shake .

Who said I was reffering to anyone in this thread? And as as far expressing your views in a discussion thread, I'm fully aware of that thanks, it's why I expressed my view. When did I say people couldn't? lol seems like its you thats implying I'm not allowed to express my view.
