Who is Max Demin?

Steve C

Trialist
Interesting that Max has increased his holding in the Cherries to 100%. I'd be interested to hear veiws on this blog about this and what it means. He seems to be a mysterious and yet beneficial owner. He lives in Switzerland but doesn't like media or coming to matches. Last year he bought the London music studios where the music to Harry Potter was recorded and says he plans to invest in that as well.

So, does getting the hedge fund part-owners out, clear the way for a more committed approach to a new stadium - or make it even less likely. I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of others. Good piece on Demin here btw:

This quote from the first article linked above is interesting and possibly pertinent to the latest Peak6 development.

Manager Eddie Howe spoke to Sky Sports News HQ about how highly he regards Maxim Demin.

“He cares deeply about the club. He wants to do things the right way, he has invested in the facilities not just the playing squad but he has put his own money in to take his club into a different era.

“You’re definitely not guaranteed success in football, and he’s taken a brave stance and thankfully it’s paid off for him.”

Compare that to the Summer statement that plans for the stadium and training ground were on hold and that the decision had been made to invest solely in the squad.

Unless Max has changed his opinion since 2015, it doesn't really sound like the sort of decision Max would make. He previously wanted to "take us into a different era" and was prepared to invest in the infrastructure ( the stadium plans I believe also stem from the time when Max was still in sole charge ).

I can imagine that having Peak6 on the board was becoming an increasing problem for Max and his plans for the club ( a club which he must surely genuinely care about, unlike Peak6 whose motives remain unclear ), so the holding statement about the infrastructure plans was just put out to calm the talk down whilst Max was manoeuvring to buy back Peak6's share of the club.

Buying out Peak6's share doesn't make much sense if Max's plan is to sell the club. It would only make sense if he is looking to raise capital by selling the 25% to another buyer who is willing to pay more OR he wants to sell the stake to another interested party who DOES HAVE the cajones to join him in green lighting the infrastructure investments.

It looks to me as if buying out Peak6's share is all about CONTROL of the football club and it's future. We know that Max knows the importance of Eddie to all future plans and I suspect that he was being frustrated by Peak6's extreme reluctance to take risks and feared that it could lead to Eddie becoming disillusioned. If there is one thing Max cannot afford, it is for Eddie to lose faith in him and go somewhere else where he feels he will get more backing.

...probably none of our business 'who' he is?....he wishes to remain private and un-heralded then fair enough?

...as a fan the workings of the running of the club are never going to be made totally known anyway...we can all hope for good things!

Why doesn't buying out Peak 6 make sense if he wants to sell the club? Surely it does. I'm not saying that's definitely his plan but it's got to be a possibility.

Because buying out Peak6 would not have been necessary if Max had another buyer lined up. Peak6 would no doubt have been delighted to sell their share to the new buyer. I doubt VERY MUCH that they would have opposed the sale if it was going to leave them with a healthy profit on their 25% stake. They were only ever in it to turn a profit. Buying out Peak6 to sell the club seems highly improbable. Peak6 would never have been an obstacle to selling the club.

Max cares about the club and he wants to get things back under his control. The Peak6 money was a good safety net in our first season in the Premier League, when nobody was sure if we could possibly stay up or totally bomb. I think it has become clear to Max that, all things being equal, we can stay in this league as long as we keep hold of Eddie and back him. Therefore it was time to get the heel-draggers out of the club, give them the profit they were always looking for and continue driving the club forward.

We shall see, but I feel very positive that Max and Eddie are now singing from the same song sheet and things will start to move forward once again.

Whatever happens the man is a legend, almost as much as Eddie. To take a punt on little ol Bournemouth and make the right decision time after time on off the field matters, and to continually back EH in on the field matters makes him a fantastic owner. Even when we had very poor runs in our first Championship season, and in each of our PL seasons and when others in the media and on this board were questioning EH ability he kept faith in him.
I will always be grateful to him for enabling us to get where we are now.

This is all pure supposition. He, or potential new owners, might want to negotiate with one party so have bought Peak 6 out to simplify the negotiations. He might be shafting them by keeping them in the dark about a sale, etc, etc, who knows.

You seem to talk very confidently about Max's intentions and what he cares about but you've got no idea about him like the rest of us. Hopefully you're right but none of us know anything. (Apart from Al obviously)

Of course. It's all just my opinion. I don't care if I'm wrong, nor will I be on here to gloat if I am proven right. I'm just posting my opinion as we all are. I don't claim to be in the know and never have.

BUT based purely on previous experience of Max and Max's relationship with Eddie, I see Peak6 leaving the board as a positive for the football club. That is all.

To think we might have had the people who EM turned down and then turned their attention to the East of us.
I recall that, where would we be now if those shysters had taken control. I can't remember the name of the poster but someone who used to come on here was almost begging us to get on board with them and how it would lead to the promised land.
