The standard of refereeing

It was particularly frustrating because it looked like a small infraction and you'll see at least 10 worse ones every match go unpunished.
I disagree. The ball went out of play right by the corner flag, from what I recall Moss then told Stan to move back (maybe twice) and he still took it 10 yards away from where it should have been. Giving the throw to the other side was the correct decision as was cautioning Stan for dissent for arguing, if indeed he was.

That said, I completely agree Moss was absolutely awful throughout the match.

I was a bit frustrated with Stanislas regarding the throw in. Yes it’s pedantic refereeing but Moss did tell him twice previously where to take it from.

It was obvious he wouldn’t let us take it from there. All Stan’s actions did were give Moss an opportunity to punish us and waste our own time. Quite unprofessional really which summed up the entire performance.
Absolutely

So next years euros who do you suggest goes from our refs....?

Without doubt, Michael Oliver.

As others have said, Mike Dean has also had a good season. The rest are out of their depths. It’s a concern that very few Cat 2 refs are coming through to ref PL matches, which means we’re likely to have the same old rubbish refs controlling our matches again next season. (Assuming we stay in PL)

Was I the only person to see the hand ball in the area when Fraser tried to cross and Bamba raised his right arm to deflect it.
It was highlighted here.

Oliver and Marriner are normally some of the better select group refs.
Sian Massey is normally an excellent select group linesman (or Assistant I should probably call her!). Another is Darren Cann although on the older side now, is regarded as one of the best linesmen in the world, with a record of international appointments to back that up.

They would be the PL's representatives right now for European and International competition IMHO.

Paul Tierney, Lee Mason, Mike Dean, Jonathan Moss and Kevin Friend can disappear to the gulag.

Saturday was so frustrating with a Ref that still believes he's a PE teacher - and is so UNFIT in every sense of the wordJon+Moss.jpg

I rarely notice a 'bad' game from a ref; I try not to criticise them. It's a tough gig out there.

However, Moss's performance couldn't be ignored. It was so obvious he was taking his lead from the home crowd. They shouted for a decision – he gave it.

I also find it hard to believe how he passes the required fitness tests to officiate at the top level.

VAR will be the death of football as we know it......thousands will leave the terraces due to the delays .
The key to the delay issue is to show the live decision being made on the big screens. We've seen in Superleague how well it works (since 1996). The crowd all turn to watch on the screen and become involved in the decision making process. It's fun.

Until we greatly improve the quality of PL refs and those in the TV sheds at a nearby airport, then VAR will never work.

Currently it’s PL matches, reffed by L2 refs.

Saw it this morning, never a penalty, sad to say.
I was inclined to agree, thought it would have been harsh, but the refereeing expert on the BT Sports live commentary team said it was a clear penalty for Bournemouth ! He can be heard saying this on the extended highlights video on COWS !!!
Shame he wasn't refereeing the game really :(

I'll have to google up ' Superleague' ....don't mind admitting I've never even heard the term!
Edit: Oh yeah Rugby League...I still call it that!
Yeah it seems to work Ok......maybe that version is the way to go then!

It's a weird, disproportionate, system we have in professional football.

The top referees are paid in a year what the top players earn in a week - what fool expects that set up to work?

If you pay 11 people in a working environment vastly more than the person in control of it all then what do you think will happen?

I know the response coming is;

"But referees are paid a big salary, I'd be a referee for that...."

But yet weirdly you're not!

And 99% of the time that is said by a person who has never tried to be a career referee.

Anyone who has refereed several competitive games knows it is a thankless task. And the media, their pundits, and us fans make it worse - going back and forth over replays when the officials get a nano-second in real time.

The current set up is doomed to failure and we as fans perpetuate this nonsense.

If you want top quality officiating then there has to be financial parity with the other participants. It has to be a job people are desperate to do, so only the cream reach the top. And we the fans have got to stop participating in the mindless post-match autopsy and the constant search for scapegoats, be they referees or players.
