The standard of refereeing

I'll have to google up ' Superleague' ....don't mind admitting I've never even heard the term!
Edit: Oh yeah Rugby League...I still call it that!
Yeah it seems to work Ok......maybe that version is the way to go then!
Ah, looks like they're planning to do it.
Anfield and Old Trafford will have to get screens, mind.

Also, everyone in the Ted Shed won't be able to see, so that might have to be addressed.

Maybe Cherry Bear could whizz round on a scooter with a 170" 4k TV in tow :scoot:

If true that would be preferable to the closed shop "we've decided and now just accept it" VAR we've had up until now. It can't do any harm for the VAR referees to be under a bit more direct scrutiny. It might encourage them to make the right decision more often.

Regarding the Ted Shed, I think we should go for the cheap option of putting up a big mirror on the opposite side of the ground - leaves more in the kitty for the new stadium ;)

Maybe instead of building a new ground they should just put it on at local cinemas since we're all going to turn up and effectively watch it on telly.

This is about the only area of football that I agree with Danny Baker on - cameras and TV should be there to observe the live event that is taking place they should not be part of it.

This relentless pursuit of 'correctness' is both destructive and futile because it is a goal that can never be achieved. I'm sure we'll all love it when we get to watch a 50/50 decision from 15 angles only for it to still go against us - not to mention the bias that will inevitably occur in favour of home teams with large grounds because one bloke has to make a decision whilst keeping 70,000 people waiting - the vast majority of which he knows will go mad if he gives it against them. And people are expecting less bias under these circumstances? Can't see it.

All I can say is it has improved rugby league. The supporters look forward to the Sky cameras visiting their ground as we know we'll have the video ref to help straighten things out. It adds to the atmosphere – especially when the crowd is waiting for the decision to be announced on the screen.

The speed of the game (football) is only getting quicker and the likes of refs like Moss can't be expected to keep up with play, never mind have the mental sharpness to make the correct decision.

The prize of being in the top league has never been bigger. We should be aiming to make every single match as fair a contest as we can.

Well I don't watch much league but I would say it's impact on union has been quite negative from what I've seen.

The prize means nothing to me as a fan - I'm not interested in balance sheets I'm interested in enjoying watching football. I don't want to travel 300 miles on a Tuesday night only to have a the euphoria of a last minute winner denied as we all watch on TV and get to the same answer we could have had five minutes ago. We get 2/3 goals per game if we're lucky and the in-the-moment euphoria is the reason football is more popular than all other sports - to throw that away for some unattainable idea of 'correctness' is silly. Even if 'correctness' was possible it's not more important than entertainment.

As I say I don't think it will make it fairer at all - the natural bias will still be there if not worse.

Coming from someone who's watched a very fast-paced sport that's used VAR for 23 years; let me assure you, it won't be half as bad as you think it'll be.

The game won't be ruined :)

It's a pen for me. He's run over to cut the cross out using his arms to make himself bigger and then he blocks it with his arm. Penalty.

Was it Ake the other week, when it hit his arm, point blank? That wasn't given either and his arm was higher up if anything. Just couldn't see Bamba move his arm at all, if that was given against us I'd be fuming.

Was I the only person to see the hand ball in the area when Fraser tried to cross and Bamba raised his right arm to deflect it.
It was highlighted here.

Yup, this woridng of unnatural position is such gubbins. His arm was unnatiral, he stiffened it behind him, every other stride it was swinging forward at that point in the stride, if it had bounced off at a weird angle and his arm gone swinging behind him then I'd agree that it was accidental, otherwise we're making refs lives dificult with stupid reworking of rules that worked prefectly fine before

edit: as davy says though, if it was given against I'd be raging and I'd be citing the letter of the law, but we're all a bit one eyed surely. My grief is with IFAB and the way the keep rewording the rulebook and offering 'guidance'

I'd probably be the same if it was given against us. In my completely biased opinion Ake wasn't trying to close the man down by making himself bigger using his arm, which is why it wasn't stuck out to his side like a keeper.

Anyone seeing the West Ham - Liverpool game? One linesman is having a complete 'mare. Missed Milner being yards offside for the first goal...later on flagging Salah off when he was two yards onside!

He has also been dropped for this weekend.

Blundering assistant Simon Beck has been axed from this weekend’s matches after the gaffe that's kept Liverpool level with Manchester City in the title race.

Beck allowed James Milner to cross for Sadio Mane to score against West Ham last Monday night — even though Milner was clearly offside when he received the ball.

West Ham struck back to earn a point, but boss Manuel Pellegrini is still angry with the official’s performance after the final whistle and the PGMOL are understood to be sympathetic to his point of view.
