Huddersfield Town v AFC Bournemouth

The referee is Anthony Taylor.

We have had him for three league games this season and one cup game.

League - Burnley A, Everton A and Liverpool A

L. Cup - Chelsea A

Hmmmmm, that bodes well - not.
Recall his awful performance at Everton and inability to take action for a catalogue of tackles from behind on Brooks and Fraser in particular.

Had the same ref at Burnley away? Hmmmm, this game is very 'Burnley away-esq' potentially. Given how our last trip to Huddersfield went...

I went up to Yorkshire for this fixture last season, and I've had a terrible record with away games this season (I went up to Burnley as well). I'm afraid everyone that I'm going to this on Saturday too. Please let's hope the parallels end there.

If we get battered here I might never be allowed to attend an away game again...

Boruc
Mepham Ake Simpson
Clyne Gosling Lerma Smith
Brooks King Fraser

Assumes Wilson won't be fit to start. Be good to have him on the bench if possible though.

Re-use that back 3, it gives lots of height for set piece defending. Huddersfield have some really good delivery from the likes of Pritchard (remember the artillery barrage from him in the Championship), Billing, and Mooy. Aimed at big defenders like Durm and Kongolo. If you were manager Jan Siewert you'd be seeing that as a prime way to hurt us.

Wing backs will be busier going forwards than they were against City. Together with the busier Gosling and Lerma, they should provide the work rate and industry required to match Huddersfield's own endeavour. We lost up there last season because we didn't match their work ethic or physicality, with too many lightweight players in our side. Last time up there we picked Ibe, Stanislas, Fraser, L.Cook, with Mousset later, and they got pushed and shoved all over the park. We cannot make that mistake again and need more beef to the side, at least to start with. Get into 'em.

Then the front 3 bring the quality and pace, either to push Huddersfield back, or to spring on the counter. They can do either job. It's must win for Huddersfield and the longer it goes on without them scoring the more they will have to push forwards.

Get them up for the fight this time Eddie.

The weather may be a big influence.

Windguru is predicting a strong westerly breeze with gale force gusts of up to 36 knots (Force 8). That means the wind is likely to be howling through the gap between the away supporters and the main stand and then swirling all around the ground.

Somehow I think it ain’t going to be pretty. However, taking the positives from this, if we all feast on curry and beer the night before, followed by mushy peas and yet more beer at lunchtime, the Huddersfield fans won’t know what’s hit them. :)

Even though Huddersfield's record re results is dire, they never seem to have capitulated and often lost on the odd goal or just been plain unlucky. With our away record I hate to say this but I think we will loose this one. :(:cautious:

Not sure about the lots of odd goal defeats with a record of scored 15 and conceded 51. But it will be a tough game I am sure. We have to keep it tight early on and not give them a sniff.

--------------Boruc--------------
---Mepham---Simpson---Ake---
Smith---Lerma---Surman---Daniels
--------------Brooks--------------
-------Mousset-------King-------

Subs: Begovic, Clyne, Rico, Ibe, Fraser, Gosling, Surridge

Simpson deserves to keep his place. Fraser needs to drop down to the bench and see if he can make more of an impact as a sub, not been good enough. Clyne hasn't been very good at all these last 3 games; we have options there now so lets see them. Daniels is a better wingback than Rico from what I've seen, and Rico could be a good attacker to bring on if needed, with his (perhaps mythical) deadball ability. I'd rather start Mousset and see what he can do from the beginning then waste a sub and watch him aimlessly jog around for 15 minutes. King HAS to do better, and maybe he'll be better with a...*cough* "Strike Partner". Get Brooks in the No10 role to feed the strikers. Lerman  reunited, can't stomach Goslings passing right now.

If Wilson's back that adds another dimension to our bench.

I thought Huddersfield were excellent against us at home tbf to them, not sure whats happened with their season; I'd say Cardiff and Fulham are worse sides based on what I've seen so far. No strikers and bad luck I guess.
If you only score 15 goals in 29 games it's pretty obvious what the issue is. They did play well against us but never looked like equalising.

...I will take a point there tbh to stop the away loss run from rolling on!

Boruc

Clyne
Mepham
Ake
Smith

Fraser
Surman
Lerma
Brooks

Mousset
King

Bench: Begovic/Ibe/Simpson/Rico/Daniels/Surridge and Taylor

I am assuming that Gosling/Stanislas/Solanke/Cook and Wilson will be unavailable through injury...and don't have a clue where Hyndman might be???

Gosling should be ok, he was on the bench on saturday

If Simpson doesnt play I will Do my Nut ! If he is good enough to face MC why not again on Saturday to get some continuity with future defensive improvements....and in mind with the possibility of Ake moving on. I think Gosling has done enough to warrant a permanent place to the end of season...then review the question in the Summer regarding his usefulness....or sign an upgrade/balancing that against the return/when of Lewis Cook.

whether Simpson plays will probably depend on the formation, 3 centre backs and he will play obviously. If its 4-4-2 though I think it will be Ake and Mepham.
