Harry Wilson

....Klopp is trying to be clever here over Wilson, which is his perogative....but I don't want Howe's team selection to be compromised in any way?

FFS we have taken his cast offs in the past...he must think that we are a soft touch!

Are these "guaranteed to play X number of games" clauses really a thing? I can't see any manager agreeing on such a clause tbh.

They are. If someone is going to be in another teams reserves they may as well be in your own getting coached your way. You loan them out to make them better by getting games.

In the championship they just get recalled, like Atsu when we didn’t play him and you run the risk of not getting loaned players again.

In the PL they can’t be so there is normally a financial clause put in because obviously if they are crap week after week you won’t play them.

We loaned Atsu while in the Premiere league. Chelsea also recalled Ake when we had him on loan, meaning recall options do exist in the premiere league. Other than that everything you have said is spot on

If you say so. I appreciate why the loaning club would want it but I don't see why a manager would agree to it. You'd need assurances from your own club that you don't have to pick him at the very least.

I'm not sure it is spot on. I reckon they use the recall option instead of an actual must play clause in most cases. Not that much know anything about these things.

Why would you loan someone out if they weren't going to get match time. Just means they get inferior coaching elsewhere and none of the experience that yo weren't able to give them on a Saturday afternoon. I say inferior because you don't have control of it, and yo should be backing yourself to be the best at coaching, especialy as you're making them ready for your team not someone elses

None of us will really know the agreements here. I am pretty sure Eddie and Jurgen get along fine and if we are being respected as a club to loan Wilson to, I don't suspect the 'rules' will be too draconian. Every player has to earn that right to start a game. And if Wilson arrives here and doesn't perform, he or Liverpool can't expect him to be starting. I'm sure all they could ask is that he gets opportunities to play, from there on, its down to the player to perform. They won't want him here to just be on the bench from the off.

Recall options were scraped a few years back, so recalls only possible if written into original contract and then only during transfer window

If Klopp loves him so much why doesn't HE play him? :silly:

He'll have to earn his way into our team regardless of any clause; like someone above said I really can't see EH being held to ransom in the way he selects his team.

It’s standard that you have to pick them else they will loan them somewhere else that will. We had same with Wilshere if I remember. Of course you can drop them but you just pay for the privilege!!

It does suck but you loan a player out for a specific reason.

The interesting thing will be with Solanke, Calum Wilson, king, Fraser, Harry Wilson and danjuma on form fitting Brooks back in might be tricky. Although we still have injuries I know!!

I'd like to see short term loans make a comeback. I know it upsets the people that make FIFA because they can't update the team rosters fast enough, which is the real reason behind the transfer windows. So that when Brooks or Cook are coming back from injury we could send them to the Championship or Lg1 for a month just to get minutes under their belt rather than risk trying to "ease" them back into a team that may need no disruption, and an environment which is far more intense

You say this but I'm just not sure it is standard. There didn't seem to be this 'standard practice' when we left Iturbe, Ake, Atsu, etc. on the bench. Wilshere at that point was so highly rated that he was going to walk into any side... until we dropped him.

Atsu was injured virtually the whole time he was with us.

Not such an issue if the loan is only until January. Has anyone with credibility said it is a season long loan?

Iturbe was brought in with a obligation to buy after x appearances. The parent club can't have both clauses, that'd be madness
Ake was recalled by Chelsea precisely because we weren't playing him, Conte said it publicly and then suddenly we gave him a few matches
I think Chelsea had already given up on Atsu

Which suggests these 'must play' clauses are non-standard at best doesn't it?

Is Eddie going to let Jurgen Klopp tell him who to pick?

Haha, fair enough, maybe exist in less than half of all loan agreements. But they occur often enough that they aren't seen as exotic or weird

Also, no I hope he isn't going to let anyone dictate who he picks, but then I can;t imagine anyone getting in Eddie's head like that. He's a pretty strong willed bloke. I'd imagine you'd view it as a 2M fee with a 25k rebate every game someone plays rather than a 1M loan fee with a 25K penalty every match someone doesn't play. I'm pulling numbers out my **************** there, wouldn't be anywhere that much per game
