Training ground

A lot of the recent work being done in the area is for the Canford Park SANG being funded by the development over the road.

Starting work before receiving planning permission is a guaranteed way to annoy the Council

We want to keep them onside !!

The club already have planning permission for most of the build eg demolishing the golf club buildings, much of the landscaping and pitch layouts etc. So not necessarily a red rag to a bull.

A bit of an update. There is progress at last.

I've just taken the dog down to this park which is now open to the public. Halfway around the walk you get an excellent close up view of the new site so reporting progress shouldn't be an issue. If anyone knows the old course the park boundary is next to the approach to the old 18th double green so you get a nice view of it all.

The old clubhouse and adjacent buildings have been recently demolished and the place is full of heavy machinery.

They appear to be doing some sort of groundworks as well, hence the big mounds of earth wellsworld reported seeing around the site (can confirm its on the clubs land).

I assume, once the training centre and pitches are built, there'll be some sort of barrier to stop anybody seeing in?
Access will be strictly controlled I guess. It maybe then that players come by coach from there to Dean Court for matches, but thats just another guess.

I just wondered if there was a public right of way, by the river and perhaps you could see in from there?
I haven't been down there so I have no idea if there is currently access.

Yes the Stour Valley Way follows the River Stour all the way up to Merley

and goes all the way to stourton, near stourhead, with only a few small breaks. am sure a big "green" fence will be erected around the afcb site. the road in has already been modified to keep the riff raff away from the afcb bit.
