Villa - The Verdict

Yes, a very annoying player for us (being the opposition today) not least as he bought a few fouls.... But bloody hell he’s some player don’t you think? Head and shoulders the best player on the pitch today imho. How is he not in the England squad?! Apart from him, I think our 11 on the pitch today were better man for man than any of their players.

Because whenever anyone looked at him he fell over and the ref gave a free kick, and maybe also a yellow card, the only tactic we had left in the second half was to never try to tackle him. He deliberately ran into Lerma and got him sent off it was that ridiculous

It was complete bullshit from the ref. When a player is that protected that the opposition aren't allow to put in a challenge he's bound to look amazing.

I wonder how good he'd look when reffed fairly. He has talent but today was totally misleading.

Yup totally agree with the above. Only Jef could handle him so he gets him sent off. Looking like he’s beefed up, calves like cockerels and probably won’t get injured so will play a part in the Villains escape . But a complete cheat too. He’ll be good for England though

Now THAT is what we want to see. I hope the penny has finally dropped for EH. No more playing out from the back, we can’t do it. Go direct, press high and play for the second ball, then play our football in the opposition’s half. It was scrappy at times but this is fantastic, we need to make every game a scrap! For the first time in a long time, in the last two league games we have pressed high and not given our opponents any time on the ball, and lo and behold we pick up two wins. Billing is a monster as a high pressing centre mid, all we asked for was fight and now we have it. Even if we didn’t win today I’d have had no issues, all I want is for my team to fight like their lives depend on it and today we got that.

I'll say this quietly, I like Grealish, and would have him in our team any day. Creates better than most, and there is a reason opposition fans dislike him, not just because he draws goals and cards.
He could however be one that stands out amongst a poor team , but put him in with a top 6 squad and he could disappear, lives off being the top dog. Don't mean that hastily, some are just made like that (Le Tissier)
But today was fantastic, no stand outs, everybody pulled a shift, and s reason I suspect we made no changes
Missed these sort of performances more than I realised
For sure the guy is an absolute class act, there is not really any denying this. Up there with Traore, Zaha, Saint-Maxamin as one of those wow players who can win you a game on their own. He is an absolute twonk though. Having said that can you honestly say that none of our players have ever play acted to try and get an opponent sent off? Cough cough Jeff. Type of player you love to hate unless he’s in your side.

It will be his attitude. He is a snidey little so and so, always up for aggro. He gets easily wound up and any decent ref would soon wise up to his antics. Gets away with loads because he is their captain. There is a national Grealish love in at the moment, he isn't deserving of it......................

Best performance by an English qualifying player I have seen this season. of course he is narky, and that is disappointing, but he makes a very ooor team tick almost entirely on his own and I would love to see him do that for England.

Absolutely this. In the second half you could just see that our players were terrified to get too close to him when he was in a dangerous position ! Totally unfair, we were already down to ten men but knew if we even made Grealish sneeze the ref would be giving an instant free kick and probably a yellow card. So in the second half Villa had a bigger advantage than just the extra man. When I see the protection Grealish got and Wee Man NEVER gets and then for comparison in this game the protection afforded to Callum from the ref and lino in the second half, when he permanently had some Villa player’s arms wrapped around him, it just makes the whole game weighted and unfair. Lerma’s second yellow was an utter joke too.
Now I’m going over to the ref slagging thread and looking forward to reading how you all saw it.

Great result despite officials with an agenda !
