A Saints view of Bompey!

They say no-one is ever to good to go down- and if I was a Bournemouth fan I would be asking some serious questions? How can a talented squad with a highly regarded young English manager be in this position?
For me there is 3 main reasons:-

1) A sense of complacency set in after a strong start. We knew we weren’t going to make Europe so we thought we could just cruise our way through the season to a mid table finish.

2) A series of crippling injuries struck just as confidence was waning and the realisation we were in a battle.

3) Eddie was too slow to recognise that his tactics which worked with one group of players would be ineffective with the differing skill set of our current group of players.

There are signs of optimism. The work rate among the players is back and our injuries are finally starting to heal. Eddie has adjusted his tactics and while still not perfect are making us competitive in most matches.

The worry is it’s too little too late. We have a tough run in and we can’t afford to throw away matches like yesterday. If we do go down, and despite the injuries excuse, both Eddie and the players will look back with a lot of regret as it’s largely been a mess of their own making.

Very well put- injuries are a massive factor- without Ings we would be in significant trouble. We seem to play better away when we can play a high press- we struggle against teams who sit in there own half (Burnley being a prime example). From what I have seen of Bournemouth they have lost a bit of their identity- I think it was last season when you absolutely put Brighton to the sword playing some incisive quick attacking football. One performance like that and the belief will come flooding back.

I think saints could well put the final nail in the coffin when we play them. Decent away side so will be a tough game. Fully expect them to be singing “mind the gap” and “when Bournemouth, go championship, I want to be in that number”. Danny ings (who will be booed no doubt) may even score the winner.

What’s the saying? Revenge is a dish best served cold!

Humble pie time for a few afcb fans if that happens!
Thats what footballs all about!

Quite right. Banter is all about milking a good situation for all it's worth while you can. It's always done with the knowledge that it's probably only a matter of time before things start going pear-shaped for us and we will find ourselves on the receiving end. All good clean fun. Dish it out while you can and take it on the chin when it's due !

I think social media makes it worse now. I mean if they did send us down - but it was 30 years ago, they'd gloat at the stadium...and that would be that. You'd be pissed off for a day or so, then get over it.

Now it's endless arguments, gloating, wind ups on messageboards and twitter etc etc..

Fortunately this forum is as near to social media as I ever get and this Siberian Saints supporter seems to be a thoroughly decent chap. I imagine they are all like him, no ? ;)

I follow a few on twitter, generally OK. The ones of football forums.net are generally ok too. But on that site, everyone advises each other to stay off their clubs main site (like this one for us) as there's loads of idiots on them.

Of course I stuck up for this vitals site :grinning:

Reality is that all clubs have idiots on social media including ours. Social media seems to engender hate and sneering in general. Brighton and Watford are two of the worse but spoken to quite a few fans of both clubs who are just normal football fans; love their club but able to praise other clubs if merited. All of them have been impressed with afcb in the prem. Same with saints fans I know - when they have beaten us haven’t gloated at all.

This 100%

Football management is a constant learning curve. You are reliant on players giving 100% and the right tactics being used. Saints battering from Leicester and us spanking them at St Fairies, made their manager rethink what was and wasn't working for them.
Eddie has had problems crop up with tactics and players out of form for 5 seasons. Making the right choices will see him either become either a better manager or stuck in a rut.
If we do drop down it will be a shame as we have much to remember from 5 seasons in the Premiership. We now have to won 2 or 3 games against top ten sides. None of us Want to go back 30 years when too many locals followed Saints and not us.

Football needs rivalry- this Board seems decent and clearly you all share a love of your football club. I think most Saints fans have a healthy respect for you - I can’t lie though and admit we probably looked down on you in previous years- which understandably would have pissed you off- but I think you have given us a couple of bloody noses since those days and we have developed a growing rivalry. You are where you are on merit - an incredible story and a football club on the up- you, like us represent the south of England and that at least unites us- as it does with our friends from Pompey!

My life was complete when we won at St Fairies. We ain't gonna win the league or the cup, so that September evening was the greatest day of my time supporting AFCB, unless of course we relegate the Scum when they visit us at the end of the season.
How can anyone have even the faintest respect of the scum after what they did to us over Lallana is beyond belief. What sort of next door neighbour goes into your house and steals your best jewellery. Scummers do of course!

That’s what bigger clubs do to clubs below them - that’s why Liverpool keep poaching saints players. Annoying re Lalana but professionally he made the righty decision so can’t blame him plus we got a decent cut on his transfer including a great loan signing of Artur boruc who helped us get the championship. So not all bad news

I understand why Bournemouth dislike us- we have been condescending towards you over the years and maybe we have had to swallow a bit of humble pie....

Except the vast majority of you didn't and haven't eaten any humble pie, even in the days immediately after we humiliated you.

Every club has its fair share of idiots but most of us the other side of the Forest enjoy the rivalry!
