Jordon Ibe

They talk about this but I believe it amounts to nothing more than a cursory glance at their social media; I don't think we employ a P.I. to check them out.

I suppose his court case is on hold what with everything as it is. Be a former Bournemouth player when he gets sentenced.
I was under the impression that it meant extensive conversations with people who have worked with him. But I guess it’s quite possible that he developed a ‘big fish in a small pond’ mentality when he made the step down to join us from Liverpool, maybe he thought that he wouldn’t have to take life so seriously anymore playing at a lesser club. Tbh he strikes me of another example of a young player who was given too much too early, when you are in your early 20s and in tens of thousands of pounds a week based purely on potential, not every player has the mentality to stay focussed and motivated.

Read this for an insight into how we work.

With a scouting operation that costs millions and us potentially watching a player sixty times before signing him I expect we go into things a lot deeper than that.

No matter how much research you do though, you'll always make mistakes. That's the market we're shopping in, even more so than the top clubs and even they makes mistakes.

...These days players have all manner of advisors and im sure Ibe is no different. I jut wonder if he actually listens to any advice

Anyone can be surrounded by advisors but that doesn't mean those advisors are informed, intelligent, or in it for the right reason.

Take Fraser; I'm still of the view he has been listening to bad advice, probably from an agent and quite possibly from family too... and, of course, that's been a roaring success!

I'd reckon most footballers are surrounded by people who are looking to earn off them. I doubt Ibe has one advisor focused on trying to support his mental health.

Let's hope no-one you care about is ever accused of 'playing the mental health card' and, as a result, denied the support, help or consideration you'd want for them when they'd need it most.

Your original mental health post definitely introduced a welcome different angle and certainly challenged me to think again as to whether I was being bigoted.

What seems suspicious to me is how it was a vague statement after his second driving infraction and didn't form part of his defence for the original offence. He already had 11 points on his license when he did it.

The club has a psychologist which has worked with him for, I think, 4 years or so now you'd think that any legitimate mental health issues would've been identified and used as part of his defence.

The performance of Premier League players is what brings success and riches, I'd be amazed to think that the psychical and mental condition of players isn't one of the single most important things for the business. In addition, Ibe is a multimillionaire with access to the best mental healthcare money can buy.

It's very unlikely AFCBFan or anyone connected with him/her is anywhere near as privileged.

We've had some great posts on mental health recently and a few posters talking about their personal experiences. It would be awesome to get to the point where guys are talking about mental health in the same way as we talk about doing our shoulders laying some decking but I'm not convinced pampered footballers committing random acts of vandalism is helpful to that cause.

Personally, and I fully appreciate this is all speculative, painting Ibe as a victim to me on balance feels more like media training from his agent after a series of high profile incidents at a sensitive time in his contract.

Well if it's gross misconduct it might allow us to terminate his contract.
At an estimated 38,000 a week it's just shy of a quarter of a million quid saved.

All he has to say is he lives with the guy and it's all over, just don't see the point myself, but lets see I guess.

If AFCB didn’t sack him when he was found guilty of a criminal charge, or when he was caught driving whilst disqualified, I doubt AFCB will sack him for getting a hair cut.

He posted a muffled inaudible video yesterday afternoon wearing a surgical face mask . Something about media wanting crumbs, they should get a life and spend time with their families.

if it was a bad haircut.... it could be 'the final curtains' for him?

At the time we had an injury crisis and needed him around as well as being more sound financially. It made sense to keep him around.

Now it's 0-6 games he'd be eligible for with a fully fit squad and a big money black hole. It makes more sense to get some wages back.

Employing people is a real art. You get it wrong sometimes. Its about taking a view on the possibility of change and development of potential. If you only employ based on what you see now you miss out on what might be. That applies to ability as well as character.

There has to be some risk. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. Ibe hasn't paid off. I have no idea what the pressures are of being so wealthy at a young age, but being rich doesn't provide immunity from pressure or mental health problems.

I hadn't noted the driving while disqualified, was he prosecuted for that? Re the hairdressing photo, that is just unthinkingly crass. Stupidity? A need for attention? Who knows? He had a chance at probably the most supportive of all clubs and blew it.

Plenty of people I know and care about suffer from mental health related problems thank you, and seen as you deleted half of my post in that quote shows you have taken it out of context. My point is there is a difference between mental health and blatenty breaking the law - driving when banned, breaking the lockdown by getting your haircut and posting it on social media, driving away from the scene of a crime and not ringing the police; that’s not mental health it’s pure stupidity and you know it.

Time for a clean break. Mind you, a lot of players returning to training across the prem clubs seem somehow to have had hair cuts!

obviously politicians & footy players are somehow different to us

Sorry but the statement '...he’s played the mental health card recently...' only has one context and one implication.

Also, the idea that continually taking a series of self damaging actions - that a thoughtful and caring club and manager couldn't correct - can only be 'poor stupidity' and not a mental health issue is ridiculous.

He keeps doing things that puts his career, lifestyle, family, etc at risk. That's not normal.
