Covid & Football

Deeney returning to training after being reassured by the Government about the safety of players.

( Some might be more cynical!!)

Just read that Villa manager Dean Smith’s father has passed away after contracting the virus.

Whilst it is clear having contracted the virus 4 weeks ago that it did not come from the start up of Football, I do think that it re-enforces how precarious the whole situation is with safety, not just of the players but with respect to potentially vulnerable family members as well.

While it's unlikely someone high profile will die as a result of the restart I think it's highly probable that the over 90 mass gathering or the combination of them in a short space of time will result indirectly in loss of life.

From the Times:

- If restart 20 June - remaining rounds will be 7 weekends and 2 midweeks

- If restart 27 June - remaining rounds will be 6 weekends and 3 midweeks

- So whichever option is followed, PL season will end on Sunday 2 August
- FA Cup Final - Saturday 8 August
- FA Cup QFs and SFs in free midweeks
- Season must finish by early August to leave space for completion of CL/EL

One more link for the morning. This time a proposal from Tranmere on how to finish the season with a much more complex ppg calculation which means anyone who would stay up under the statistical margin of error remains up.

https://www.tranmererovers.co.uk/ne...ble-end-to-the-efl-season-in-a-time-of-crisis

If that applied to the PL it's likely that Norwich would be the only ones sent down.

Just shows that there's 100 different ways to calculate these things with so many different outcomes. None of them fair.

To be honest, I don't expect the EFL to even consider allowing the Tranmere proposal since all they're concerned about is three getting promoted to the PL.

I guess the positive here is that if we do stay up the players can still have a break and preseason since we aren't involved in any of the cups or European competition.

I know they haven't been playing for a while now but it hasn't been a proper break. There's been so much uncertainty about and they never knew how quickly they might come back so had to keep on training at home. Remember the plan to resume in April?

When is the restart date voted on? Sounds like it won’t be too big a deal finishing on August 2nd, a week before the usual first game of the season! Wonder when it’ll restart again, second week of September would be my guess?

Today apparently alongside how it will be broadcasted in terms of games potentially being on FTA tv as ordered by the Government.

We cannot restart that season or start next season until the Government rid the country of Covid 19.
Are people that f√cking thick? Its a contact sport and will involve 300 people inside the Stadia...probably 500 in Anfield and OT .
400+ deaths on Tuesday!
