Diego Rico

Yes agree, a steady rather than spectacular improvement this season and been good since the lockdown, would happily see him competing for a place next season.

One of the things to factor in with Rico is how the cost of replacing him compares to the fee we’d receive for him. I don’t think we’d get much for him but I’m not too sure there’s a value replacement available either.

Unless of course we extend Brad Smith’s contract...

Rico is one of my favourites. When Bournemouth bought him, I looked at his WhoScored.com rating in the Spanish league and I thought he would transition well to the Premiership. Then he hardly played in the first season.

This year he has been given a proper run-out and I've been impressed. Yesterday, at about 7 minutes, he hit one long ball and it was almost pinpoint accuracy to KIng, I think. His free kick that led to the Lerma-Solanke goal was also pretty good.

He has his flaws, though, and one has to be aware of them. He's not very fast so he can get beaten if he is too far up the pitch, and his anticipation isn't always very good.

As much as I would love him to stay, I can also see him looking attractive to some club chasing 'the Everton Cup' and I wouldn't begrudge him the opportunity to stay in the top flight.

Is not Brad Smith any good at all ? Why did we sign him if he int no good....for anythin'....je suis of not gettin' this Saga....is he gonna be our player for eons but not taking to a field for us up until he is reading Saga magazine...its a blooming strange story this one !

He's become one of my favourite players. It's taken time for him to settle (new country, language, culture, manager, team etc.,) but he's come into his own. He would be great for us in the Championship, just hope he stays for a season at least.

Agree completely. He's got a mistake in him (see Everton's goal) but is a fine player. Seems a good guy as well, really hope he stays around next season.

Didn’t Walcott get past him easily yesterday which led to their equaliser?

But apart from that he had a good game and as mentioned earlier MOM.

Millwall away FA cup, never forget! One of the most inept and pathetic full back performances I've ever seen. The bloke was terrified of being near the ball in that atmosphere, near the touchline, with the home crowd on his back. Smith got battered from start to finish by his opposite numbers. You could tell he hadn't played much competitive football, and too much sterile big club bubble football.

Have to see what a stint at Cardiff has done for him I guess. Who knows maybe theyll want him, but think he's been a bench player for them mostly.

He’s played 13 minutes in total.

Rico is one of the most underrated players I’ve seen play for us. Guy is class. Never seen a Bournemouth full back block so many crosses and make so many interceptions. If he’s still here next season he’ll be the best full back in the championship.
