NON Bournemouth Pubs

Micawbers... or however you spell it. Surprised nobody mentioned that yet. Also... Bacchus the only place you could get a drink at 16 (when I was 16). Helmsman on Poole quay had a great jukebox.

Early 80's Rossmore, Albion and the Retreat. Later Beaufort bars in Westbourne, Central Bars, Fox, Pembroke Shades. 5th Avenue nightclub. Swan in Poole.
Charlies bar in Branksome (Woodman) and the Halfway in Bournemouth Road.

i DJ’d at the Woodman & the Charlie’s. Also I’d the Halfway as few times when the regular DJ’s couldn’t- it wasn‘t on my list of highlights

MOON IN THE EFFING SQUARE. Was/is the only pub in the town centre that didn't blast you to death with sickly chart house music.

Used to start most friday/Saturday nights in there late 90s/ early 00's. Good Times.

Like yiu say, much more sociable due to no crap loud music like most other central pubs/bars. Cheap drinks to set the night up.

My Uncle Harry once told me that around the time of the Second World War there used to be 32 pubs between the railway station and the quay in Poole. There never were that many in my lifetime, but I know of these that are no more:

The Railway
The Ansty Arms
The Portmahon
The Foundry
The White Hart
The Royal Oak and Gas Tavern
Pure Drop
The Dirty Duck (Swan)
The Shipwrights

In the wider Borough of Poole, these have also gone.

The Darbys
The Skittlers
The Oakdale
The Tatnam
The Retreat
Seaview Hotel
The Beehive
The Dorset Knob

Some are missed, others won't be.

I thought The Foundry was still going?

Same here, although more mid 90's. Then onto Cage/Zoo Friday nights and other places Saturday night..Bacchus had turned into Brazil I think by then..that was quite good.

yeah or great escape/poo na na's.

cage had that weird over 21 policy on saturday nights, which they got rid of in the early 00's.

amusing looking back now that they wouldn't let you into clubs wearing jeans back then.

chinos and ralph lauren/YSL shirts seemed to be the trend. remember feeling like I'd made it when I first wore a shirt with a horse and jockey on it :D

Part of that weird jeans obsession with nightclubs. I think Friday night was better if I remember rightly at Zoo/Cage.

Looking back I think our core years were 94-96, after I got back from uni and I moved to Nottingham. It's quite nice doing the 'same crowd, similar places' bit for a while - never really done it before or since tbh.

the Pub culture has been eroded by breadowns of community values, healthier lifestyles, bans on smoking, cheap supermarket plonk, and now after Covid people are building bars/sheds in their gardens for entertaining just the friends that they want to be with!

I guess it is what they call progress?

It is almost like life has been re-set by the pandemic and our lifestyles have more challenges and anxieties...
