AFC Bournemouth v Brentford - Championship Play-Off Semi-Final 1st Leg

Nonsensical to not try and score from the corners at the end when there's no points at stake and away goals don't mean more than home goals. You don't keep it in the corner before half time.

That's poor prep. They should have known what to do in that scenario before they went out.

Hang on though, sending Mepham forward could have left us exposed on the break....or am I missing something?

So why does anyone ever send defenders up for corners? It's risk vs reward - there were no points at stake so it just comes down to who's more likely to score from our corners. I know we all joke but we even turned down promising open play opportunities to try and score? Why - another goal would have made a massive difference to the tie.

Played well today and good win. Small margins though, just glad that Brooks passed to Danjuma on that 4 man counter because Dom probably would've missed. I don't know how they missed that open goal but it's far from over and we will have to be clinical on the break at their place.

It’s not really the traditional half time though is it , The players were tired it’s the end of ninety minutes of intense football ... take the lead and be happy with it .... we would all be screaming blue murder right now if we had sent too many players up for a corner and they scored on the break .

No way you'd get 12-1, unless we were both about 6-1 underdogs.

More like 4-1
You don't add the odds,if both teams were even and you put a pound on a double, you would get four pound back so that would be three to one.Ten pound double on two ten to one teams would give you eleven hundred pounds back, one hundred and ten pound going on to a ten to one shot.Your way of thinking two ten two one shots is twenty to one but it's not

I’m obviously missing something. The risk of conceding in the 93rd minute and heading to Brentford at 1-1 is worth it? Or see out the game, keep a clean sheet and go there 1-0?

Great performance, stating the obvious here but puts us in a good position.

Im certain that Brentford will score at some stage in this tie but if we can go 1 up and their place, it could be very exciting since they will have to commit.

I just hope we don’t go there and sit back for 90 minutes

Good performance. Woodgates interview afterwards was very interesting, quite happy to let them have the ball and us to counterattack in this game so will undoubtedly do the same at Brentford. Seems the right call to me as Brentford are a bit like us - very good on the counter but struggle if teams try and stifle them.
They have to score, we don't, but we know we are well capable of getting a couple on the break.

Look if we're 1 nil up the second leg and we get a corner with minutes to go then fine time waste ....do what you have to do but not in the first leg!......if we get a corner in the first minute of the second leg would we do the same?

time wasting in their half , playing it into the corner in their half, drawing fouls in their half is all good tactics , there is still more chance of us scoring than them from that position . Messing with the ball in our half is not so good and far riskier .
I saw a lot more of the ball in their half than ours

I don't know how else to explain it. There's no points at stake, winning the game doesn't matter, winning the tie matters. We're much more likely to score from a corner than concede so you should go for it. Same with attacking in open play towards the end - they should try and make it 2-0 rather than protect a meaningless win.
