Pat down checks

Was very surprised to find that stewards were doing pat down checks on everyone at the North Stand turnstiles yesterday.
Surely, with Covid still prevalent, this is a brilliant way to spread any infection from one person to hundreds. All it needs is a positive person who has managed to spread germs to their clothing to get patted down - and away we go.
With it also being a pointless bit of window dressing that is unlikely to catch anyone intent on smuggling anything in to the ground - maybe they should give it a miss for a while.

The guy who patted my brother and I down outside the North Stand was so obviously uncomfortable with the whole thing. Well outside his comfort zone.
Complete token effort - I could have smuggled almost anything in.

On the flip side someone with the stupidity to take a flare or explosive device in could cause even worse consequences….

Its probably part of the safety requirement to have fans in the stadium.

No it isn’t, it’s just fucking stupidity

So you’re telling me that to get into a crowded place zero security checks should take place? I get the issue with covid but I think you’ll find it’s a requirement that’s way above the club.

‘sorry the flare took the 4 year olds eye out we didn’t check any fans today.’

Given a choice between being unemployed and spreading Covid this was probably his compromise.

You should employ risk mitigation tactics that are a) proportionate to the risk and b) effective.

What is the likelihood of someone wanting to bring in a flare to a first round, second tier cup match, prior to the season proper? And secondly, if you want to detect gunpowder you use sniffer dogs, not some meaningless pat down by barely trained casual staff on the minimum wage.

Incidentally I could easily describe how to smuggle flares/bottles or other contraband into the ground by exploiting flaws in the pat down process but I am not going to on a public forum.

At most away grounds over the years they conduct similar searches but its one fan in every handful. Typically they see a group arriving and pick one or two. And the searches are more thorough.

Searching everyone, knowing it causes delays and so doing it in the half-arsed way our stewards do it to speed it up, is just wasting everyone's time.

Covid is both airborne AND bodily contact spreading.....the tiny mites can adhere to most surfaces of most materials and have bigger brains than some of the previous posters on this thread...ye gods it beggars belief how detached from reality some folk are...the damn thing has killed millions in the past 2 years !

Is Covid still prevalent?

They were still patting down, with the restricted crowds last season.

It just seems normal to me, and I’ve craved that for months now.

Interesting thought on concern of spreading by hand. When you buy a drink in a bottle the servers are still taking the lid off. If they insist you cant have bottles with lids kept on they should allow the customers to take them off themselves at the counter - but that's against their rules!

I didn't get searched. Just my handbag. A woman was patting down the men but not the women where I was...

Likewise, he didn’t even check my pockets and seemed very embarrassed to be doing it.
