Steve Cook

hindsight is 20/20 but it does seem strange that the position we are in now is, we have Cahill on a one year contract - assuming a lot of money - who is no longer in the squad, and Phillips who is in on loan and apparently costing a lot of money, Ibsen Rossi out on loan. When we could have kept Cook and his leadership/experience. Sure he could have amistake in him, but at this level? Quality,

Careful, Blake got us up two divisions… apparently.

So, Neil, are Blake and Hughes to blame for everything you see as bad at AFCB? And do they take no credit at all for any of the good that has happened over the past few years?

Recently it seems that every time we start losing, you just copy paste the same old criticism of them??

A few things that cross my mind, but let me state at the outset I am a big Steve Cook fan and wish he was still a prominent figure in our ranks.

1. We don’t know if Cook had an option on his contract that meant if he paid x amount of games this season, it grants him an option of x years for a new contract on wages somewhat relative to his premier league contract (and would also be entitled as one of our higher earners to higher performance related bonuses regardless of achieving promotion) - therefore makes sense to let him leave because despite the player he is, we don’t want to be tied in to those commitments .

2. The board in cost cutting mode may have said “we can’t afford Cookie to play x amount of games and trigger a guaranteed contract for next season on x amount” let’s try to move him on, work with what we have and add Cahill on a 1 year deal (not sure if Cahills basic is less than Cookie but I assume so and with an option to renew that is lower cost)

3. Maybe we aren’t seeing Cahill because he’s getting close to an appearance based contract renewal we don’t want to trigger and instead chose to offset some of that potential future expense on Phillips to the end of the season

I would have though if Cahill was 100% fit and able to play like he did earlier in the season, and his presence on the pitch won us promotion, playing him would be a big financial benefit to our club.

1. Fairly sure something like that happened the previous season as a lot of people thought he was out of contract (particularly Cherry-not-bright!) last summer. Unlikely anything after that would have been written into the contract?

2/3. No idea!

I'm sure a lot have more insider knowledge but I was always a big fan of Cook as despite not being the most talented he was always comitted to the cause.

Surprising reaction now that he's gone as so many posters didn't seem to rate him (part of "the worst defence in the premier league" for years) that he's now thought of as being as good as many of us always said he was!

The rewriting of history on here is embarrassing on an almost daily basis, some even claiming he was a great leader after stating he shouldn't be captain previously.

I'll be a bit conflicted Tuesday as I'd like to make him feel that I didn't want him to go, while also hoping he fcuks up and gets sent off! Hopefully he'll have to walk around the pitch so I can expalin while applauding ;)

Cooks departure was nothing less than a Tragedy...which might be fully realised in the next few weeks.

I think we should get Yems back as Operations Manager.... to Sort the Sh*t !
