City - The verdict

I think I'm right in saying that the Sky microphones are near the away section...
.I think I heard that somewhere anyway.....
A guy I know sets up the mics for PL games (not a bad job!) and I can assure you he puts them all around the ground. Quite how the director decides to mix those microphones is another thing altogether but there are mics all around the pitch.

Haven’t seen it back but thought Walker should have had two yellows.

The other full back should also have had a yellow.
Not stamping down on that allows Man City to do another and then another...

Marriner is terrible though. No authority on games.

Even he thought he was shocking, after booking Lerma, Jeff is nodding back to him saying he understands why. Jeff knew he was taking one for the team, camera cuts to Marriner who is mimicking Jeff's nodding action and winding himself up whilst brandishing the yellow. He must've realised that he had no control over the game so assumed he was being mocked, weak ref

true, but when mixing crowd noise, they will normally always prioritise the away section as it's more likely to be noisy. Travelling fans (per person) make more noise than home fans, so it's a safer bet to send the signal from there to help transmit the impression of atmosphere to folk watching on tellyboxes

On the Telly to be honest the likes of the Emirates sound far worse than Dean court .
In those types of grounds the away fan noise is so isolated you can tell the majority of the stadium is silent .

It was a better than 6.5/10 performance I think. We had bettered last seasons performance after about 50 seconds when King had a shot. We looked a lot more attacking today than last season and more confident at the back.

Ake Cook Mepham King H Wilson Billing and Lerma the stand out performers today. Ederson pulled off some great saves.

I thought we were outclassed rather than outplayed today. The reality is that every single one of their player in their position is better than ours, except possibly Ake.

Very proud of the team today, but gutted for Charlie. Nasty feeling we will never see him again

This. Everything crossed for a speedy recovery but quite possibly a career ending injury. Such a shame for a top, top bloke

Is it the same for Sky games though?

6.5 seems a bit harsh. I thought most played very well. We created plenty of chances and but for Ederson might have scored a couple more. Man City are just very good all over the pitch; faster, quicker thinking, more skilful and that high press must be murder to play against. I'd give them an 8. Bit generous maybe but I thought they were still in it even after City scored their 3rd.

Individual errors and lapses in concentration at the back along with poor finishing the reason we lost today. Relatively even on chances but the game is decided by what happens in both boxes. Few thoughts:
-cut backs. This is something we need to address. Consistently when the opposition are cutting the ball back from the bi line all of our defenders drop deep and leave opposing forwards unmarked. Not one of our three centre backs was marking Aguero for the first goal today, regardless of his quality it is criminal that he’s allowed that much space to take a touch and finish around the six yard box.
-Ramsdale decent couldn’t do anything about the goals.
-Thought Mepham again looked a bit out of his depth in a back three, really like him in a back 4 but not sure he’s suited to the three.
-Billing and Lerma were both superb again, they really are the heartbeat of this team. Billing especially looks quite some player not sure how we’ve got him from 15m!
-really feel for Charlie, pray it wasn’t as bad as it looked.
-h Wilson was good, superb free kick and a lot more suited to playing behind a front man than wee man. Good vision and passing.
-wee man. I feel for him after this one tbh, he was again ineffective until he moved to wingback but this is because he doesn’t possess the attributes to play centrally. He is great at what he does but doesn’t have the natural footballing brain and technical ability to play make in central areas. He only ever looks comfortable out wide. Might get shot down for this but that’s how I see it! Having said that his crossing was woeful again! He needs to be a bit careful, not sure he realises how good he’s got it being a guaranteed starter at a prem team! Had he performed like this for say West Ham he’d be out the team in a heart beat.
-King was excellent, great work rate and strength.
-Callum was quiet, he simply needs to score that one v one. Game hinges on that moment. Worked hard.
-VAR is a joke, city should have had a penalty in all honesty.
-at the end of the day you can’t fault the work rate and as a fan all I ask for is the players to give their all which I feel they did today.

To be fair....they got lucky with the first goal if you look again....their first shot was messed up and scuffed, which I suspect put our defenders off guard. Just fortunate that it fell right to the wrong player.
True but KDB was also completely unmarked for the initial shot anyway! In a way we were lucky he fluffed it just not with who it fell to!

Thought that was our best performance this season and was pleased to see Bournemouth go for getting a result. Man City are such a quality team so you are always relying on getting a bit of luck or them having a bad day; we got neither today. Also, atmosphere sounded good on sky.

Cynical City get the job done, I for one didn't like the way they went about it gone down in my estimation after today.

Cracking free kick from Wilson H will struggle to see a better one this season

The lads put in a great shift today of which we should all be proud, City will know they have been in a game tonight

Dirtiest opponents at home since Spurs (ie Sheff Utd weren't dirty) . Lots of leaving a foot in after the ball had gone, particularly DeBruyne. Usual refereeing performance we'd expect against a top side...

...But we had enough chances to get something today against one of the best elevens ever seen in this country.

VERY proud of our team today - and their fans were virtually silent until they got the third.

I thought Marriner was ok today apart from the incident in bold above.
That was a really poor decision.. waved advantage which very quickly turned out not to be an advantage as we lost the ball straight away. Play should have been pulled back for the FK to us.
I thought he should have booked the City player for the first foul (cynical one on Smudger I think) but refs often reluctant to book that early.
Incident involving the keeper.. booking was the right decision. It was cynical but can't IMHO be regarded as DOGSO, wasn't serious foul play, therefore yellow.
Mariner was the ref who sent off a Watford player in the first minute against us back in the championship so shouldnt deter early yellow

Totally agree with how cynical and dirty City were today. In the past I've 'enjoyed' (well I never really enjoy it) how City have beaten by just being such a good team. Today I felt let down by how they played. Why such a weak ref? As Kris Temple says above the Zinchenko and Walker fouls in the first few minutes. Although I'll let Walker off for a red as you have to presume if he'd been on a yellow he wouldn't have made the second attempt on Ake.
You could even argue a red for the keeper with how high his foot was.
