AFC Bournemouth v MK Dons - League Cup First Round

Thought every single one of the youth players looked excellent, including the subs. Kilkenny for me is a starter now, the missing players will have to earn their place back. Same with Rossi and Mepham, Rossi has looked perfectly capable and has played in all the friendlies. Anthony looks like he actually has a clearly defined role in the side now and I’d be comfortable with him starting and being involved more regularly. Zemura as well looks good enough. And what a start for Saydee.

Just feeling very happy with that and our hopes for the season :utc:

So hold back on the league 1 loans then?

It'll be a full house on Friday and it will be rocking. Good result, a bit of early confidence , the next generation banging on the door to play. It feels good to have footie back with some optimism.

Great Result! Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon . Take it with a pinch of salt, MK Dons keeper is comically poor. But there's some talent in these young lads. They will need help for the rigours of the championship though.

Saydee had 20 mins on the pitch, scored 1 and created another, can't ask for more than that.

Brooks is rusty as heck but ended up with a brace somehow. Hopefully it helps.

Killkenny has a wonderful range of passing. Just get him in the gym.

Let's hope Stacey is ok , and let's get a couple of experienced heads in here.

ok Kilkenny maybe small but clever footballers use their brains and the first few yards as they say is in the head . The ball for brooks first goal was excellent

I agree with Anthony at times he scared them.
Him on the left is where he looks at home

Well that was fun! Haven’t enjoyed a match that much since the 4-0 home drubbing of Chelsea. Love the pace we played at, the high press, the quickness of thought. Kilkenny runs the show, Anthony and Brooks great on the wing, Smithy bombs forward, Zemura fantastic when he came on, Saydee a lovely cameo, goal and assist, Kelly and Ibsen-Rossi clean up at the back, Travers makes a worldy. Tougher tests to come of course but my I enjoyed that!

Fans are disappointing? Well sorry!

Right now I'm sure I'm not alone in not wanting to sit crowded together with people in a full capacity stadium. Especially when there's no requirement for vaccination or testing.
Up to you if you want to put your life on ‘Hold’ excuse the gag! Covid was the 26th cause of death in the UK last month. Flu was 7th. If you are worried about dying from something caught at an outdoor sports event it’s far more likely to be the common flu in which case nobody should ever leave their house between October and April.

Anyway, that aside and respecting people’s wishes if they want to stay at home I can’t believe the thousands of people who used to clamour for tickets are all shelterers unless we are going to have the same attendance for West Brom? More likely the gloss has gone and people can’t be arsed, even after 18 months away which to me is a poor show.

First point: why do you feel the need to use a very positive performance to take a swipe at other fans? Just be pleased.
Second point: I can’t speak for others but I didn’t actually say we should loan Anthony or Ibsen Rossi, I said that they should be in and around the squad. It was my opinion that Travers, Kilkenny and Zemura are not quite ready to be regulars at this level. If I’m being honest the more I see of Kilkenny the more I believe that he might just be ready. But just enjoy the win for God’s sake lol

Top Farrier is having an existentialist crisis. The manager he hates being the first to play the player he loves. Ooh the quandary!!

My thoughts FWIW.

Good second half, loved Emi, played some really clever balls. We messed around less at the back and got more numbers up the pitch. Beginning to see a style of play with the wide players much wider than we were used to with Eddie or Quinndall.

Kilkenny was excellent and has filled out a lot be really interesting to see him v West Brom for the acid test. Rossi strong but worry slightly for him v pace. Kelly excellent as was Zemura when he came on. We need more players for sure… great that we have back up bit this is not a top half championship squad as it stands.

Few thoughts:
- I am aware that this was only a cup game against lower league opposition but there were some very pleasing aspects to that performance indeed. Have not seen that kind of intensity of performance both on and off the ball since the vintage Eddie Howe years. We left ourselves a bit open and vulnerable at times but for me this is a trade off worth taking for this exciting front foot style of proactive pressing. For the first time in a long time I felt like I was actually watching a Bournemouth side, energy and pressing was the key to this.
- on individuals: Anthony is going to be a real player. Not just his pace and dribbling but also the way he can spot a pass and execute it with perfect precision and timing. The talent this lad has is frightening.
- Ibsen Rossi looks very assured. Good in the air and a sharp turn of pace. Also some of his passing was out of this world. Very impressed with him.
- Kilkenny, maybe he might just be ready after all… absolutely ran the show, the way he receives the ball on the half turn is a joy to behold and his range off passing his excellent. Perhaps most crucially, his energy levels off of the ball were through the roof. The moment we lost the ball he was swarming the opposition almost immediately.
- also a shout out to Marcondes. A couple of the passes that he played on the half volley were simply orgasmic. His work rate and pressing off of the ball was also very good.
We need more bodies before the start for sure, but the signs are very positive indeed.

Oh and their GK, genuinely could not believe what I was watching at times. Towards the end it actually felt like he was taking the p**s a bit, astoundingly incompetent.

Kilkenny as we know has been mentioned in the past re early season promise, but it never went further than that and he was a fringe first team player.

It would be good to see one or two of our younger fringe players like Kilkenny make the step up to the Championship on a regular basis.

This season as things stands with our squad, this may be the ideal opportunity to make their mark.

Shame I can't watch it, but great to hear the youngsters actually DOING WELL in a cup game. Maybe that's because they've been involved with the squad FROM THE START of preseason. It will be interesting to see who stays involved with the first team squad once the season kicks off but surely a few youngsters have now cemented their places ? I certainly hope so. The team needed a refresh.
At this moment i would say that most will stay involved

Great to be back, my first game since Chelsea in February 2020 like many others.

A high scoring game was a pure bonus.

At least I'm going to be spared the tourture of Parker playing Danjuma upfront!.....I'm really not sure I could cope!.....o_O
