Old/New Stadium Pics

I particularly enjoyed seeing the ground with RED seats !!!

Nice trip down memory lane though. That is how I remember the ground. I haven't been in the new one at all ( although I have been to the new club shop to buy genuine official merch ! )

It was moved to the East Stand but I think they gave up trying to get it to work.Last seen amongst a pile of debris that is now the gym.

The clock was saved from the old ground and was intended to be fitted above the supporter entrance to the arena in the new East Stand, directly opposite the players tunnel in the new West Stand.

I was asked by Abdul Jaffer at the time of the opening of the new ground, if I would “contribute” to having the clock refurbished / repaired, and so I gave him a personal cheque for the full amount, right there and then. I was told that it would take around six weeks to get done.

Twenty-plus years later I’m still waiting to see the clock working.

It’s probably now on the side of someone’s shed or garden office somewhere.

To be fair, the money that you gave did go towards a timepiece,a new Rolex for Abdul

Brings back great memories. How many could we pack into the South end on the concrete terrace after the rest of the stand was boarded up ? 3,600 is a number that springs to mind .

Possibly, but many times it seemed closer to 360 than 3,600 on a freezing Friday evening against Rochdale.....

"pack" isn't the word I'd use :grinning:

..aaah!!!! The Old Lady as I like to call it...many memories oooozing from it's dilapidated structure and the smell of warm urine...pipe tobacco...and cloth caps.

My first visit there one sunny August day in 1969...through those glory years of the bootwalk in The South End and watching us trounce the likes of Aston Villa with the mercurial Ted Mac and young Boyer...seeing Tony Powell get his knee stuck in those railings after a sliding tackle....flying cushions from the geriatric main stand reigning down on hapless players as they left the pitch after a dodgy showing...Overcrowding on a warm Tuesday night to watch us hammer Middlesbrough.....Carl Richards knocking in the goal that sealed our first ever Divisional title....pitch invasions from Brighton fans...Nuneaton fans....Lids fans....the greatest ever escape v Shrewsbury....still remember kids sitting below those massive pylon stanchions...served it's purpose but had to fall before the crumbling concrete and rotting wood turned it into a wasteland...
