Joshua King

For the money they gets paid....you should get a professional performance at any outing whether it be v Chelsea in the PL, Queens Park Rangers in the Championship or friggin Chertsea Town or Wareham Rangers in the FA Cup - F√ck me its not asking much to crack off 90 minutes a for 50 grand plus a friggin week ..know whut ah mean bruv !

I understand your perspective but let me present you with an alternative one: perhaps we only saw him perform to that level for the year that you mention because he just wasn’t talented enough to maintain those consistency levels. I agree that when he reached those levels he was the best we have ever had in his position, but as you rightly say he only really reached that level for one year. Even in our last season in the top flight you could see that he was steadily on the decline, he only managed three goals from open play and was pretty anonymous for the majority of the season. Sometimes players just have very good spells where they perform above themselves but are unable to maintain this, just ask Ryan Fraser.
It’s a valid argument but depends on your definition of potential and talent I guess. His best spell for us was when Callum was injured and he was the main striker. He struggled in a deeper or wider role and was always second fiddle to Wilson. He chose us because he was fed up playing in a wide position and was assured we would develop him centrally. There’s loads of reasons why peoples heads drop. I think he needs to be the main man somewhere and in his preferred position. I don’t think that’s Watford either although he did start as a lone central striker last time out so maybe.

Always looked pretty obvious to me why he wasn’t utilised as a number 9 very often and why every single one of his managers hasn’t picked him there consistently.

He wasn’t as good as Wilson in that role and King offered far more to the team in a deeper position either centrally or wide using his pace than he would have done playing central, back to goal playing the physical game with a centre back staying tight to him and him evidentially being lost in their back pocket.

He also isn’t a poacher, as was clear for Norway yesterday.

I actually disagree that he struggled in a wider role, aside from his six month purple patch as an out and out forward his best performances for us came while playing wide left. He may want to play as an out and out number nine but he has very few of the attributes required to play this role. Even during his purple patch he wasn’t getting a bucket load of chances, he was just ridiculously clinical for that period which unfortunately was never going to be sustainable. He has never really been a natural number nine and he never will be. He is at his best by far when running at players from deep with his pace and power. Had he not been so intent on being a number nine his whole career, and instead focused on what he is good at, then he would have had a far more fruitful career, and wouldn’t have been with us for anywhere near five and a half years.

Subbed after 53mins today. No goal in 14 premier league games. Don't normally take much notice of ex players, but after his hysterics last year, have to admit to enjoying this a bit.

@Mark WFC - what's the early verdict?

Actually didn’t look too bad really and was a surprise he went off .

We were much worse afterwards.
