I know that many of you may see this as rich coming from me, but I am genuinely astounded at the amount of negative perspectives being taken on the performance today. So far I have read comments such as:
-we were slow and predictable
-the coaching staff acted as though they were coaching an under 12s team
-Parker does not trust his players or give them enough responsibility.
-we were okay but Barnsley are very poor, a better team would have probably beaten us.
Among others.
Jesus wept. Bear in mind this is coming from a self confessed cynic, cheer the f**k up! If you can seriously watch us utterly dominate a side that have only lost once before today, completely outplaying them in every department and not even gifting them a corner, let alone a shot on target, and still find it in yourself to be able to put a negative slant on the day, then I genuinely don’t understand why you would bother going to the game in the first place. I am as cynical as they come, but even I cannot understand the amount of negativity on here tonight.

I did think that Barnsley played into our hands, but, at the same time we had key players back, we had great performances from premier league level players that showed their level, and we had a young left back with a MoM performance and more importantly a win, a convincing win. Still a work in progress but I like what we see from the young guns, the AFCB stalwarts and the incoming signings.

It was one of the most dominating, one sided encounters I’ve seen in many a year.

Sure the passing to the defender and goalkeeper sooooo deep is going to get used to as it does invite unwanted pressure on to us and leaves us one mistake away from disaster…but it is all part of the plan.

In attack we created so many chances, it could easily have been six or seven and it wouldn’t have flattered us.

Really looking forward to the sky highlights.

and I'm sure Parker has said exactly the same to the lads in the dressing room. No need to analyse that performance. No need to look where improvements could be made because that was the perfect performance. In fact lads, have the next two days off. Jeez, give me strength. It was a good performance. A good result. Individually there were some positive performances. As a team we looked strong, quick, inventive but there was room for improvement, as there always is. We as supporters can feel good for the win but why cant faults be picked? Because it doesnt suit you Waz? or others on here? It needs a soapbox thread to tell everyone to cheer up and agree with you? I run my own business and it ticks along very nicely. I work bl00dy hard and some days are great, extremely profitable, but i dont go home, stick my feet up and tell my wife ' that was the perfect day'. I go home and analyse where i could improve further. What i could have done that bit better. Where i could have gone a bit quicker. I enjoy the day, yes, but i will never rest on laurels and walk around slapping myself on my back for a job well done. I hope , of course, my customers are happy with the service given, the price theyve paid etc and if they give me any feedback then its all taken onboard and analysed.
In short, good performance yesterday. An improvement on the last few matches. Some stand out individual performances. Lots of happy supporters exiting at full time but, if some raise points where they think we couldve improved or played better then theyre the ones i'll read and analyse because theyre ones actually looking at where we can continue to improve, not the threads telling everyone to cheer up as that is as good as it gets. Theyre not knocking the team or 'slagging' the performance off , theyre raising a point for discussion. So what it really needs is a soapbox thread telling everyone to cheer up. jeez........

Nonsense. In what way is making comments such as ‘we were slow and predictable’ or ‘we won because Barnsley were very poor’ in any way a fair reflection on the performance today? You must not read what I write very often, because I am constantly analysing our performances and what went right/wrong. We were not slow and predictable far from it. Just out of interest, how do you think we could improve on that performance today?

you're very right, that's bloody rich coming from you
for negativity, read realism, we were decent but barnsley were as poor a side as i've seen at this level, reminiscent of that bolton home game
and your usual hyperbole [don't know why people bother turning up etc] does nothing for your argument

let's face it, if we'd drawn or even lost you'd have been back in full bedwetting mode, torn off parkerball (whatever the fcuk that is) and probably blamed steve cook.....

Agree, some bizarre posts imo. Utterly dominant, barnsley weren't great but I think a large part of thst was down to us.

Certainly not predictable. One of things I liked was how quickly we moved the ball from 1 side to another. We looked threatening all over the pitch and they couldn't deal with it.

Maybe the passing around at the back is where this slow and predictable label comes from and that is where the frustrations emanate for those who have taken a more negative perspective. For me, it is pretty obvious why we are doing it. We are looking to draw the opposition on to us and then either play through the press to exploit the spaces in behind, or perhaps more commonly (and effectively,) we look to draw the opposition on to us to then switch play to the opposite flank to the wide players who are hugging the touchline.

Oh give it a rest. Instead of actually debating where you think we could make improvements, you have instead decided to launch a personal attack. Congratulations. Btw did you read my analysis after the Blackpool game? Would you describe that as bed wetting?

Its not a new tactic, Parker hasn’t reinvented the wheel with it, we used to do it under Howe and it also got criticised. What’s different under Parker is that we do it 15 yards closer to our own goal now and goes against everything pretty much all of us would have been coached as growing up. :)

Mr Negativity himself. :grinning:

It’s a forum so there is always differing opinions.

There were of course a couple of negatives, we dominated so much that it could and should have been 5 or 6, we must have missed 2 or 3 from balls straight across the goal. We also picked up reckless bookings. As @DJ said earlier the tippy tippy football at the back isn’t always for me but I can see why we do it.
As Parker said himself there’s always room for improvement, the great thing is there’s probably not one player in that starting 11 now that can’t be looking over his shoulder knowing there’s an able replacement ready to jump in at any minute.

You've posted some outrageous comments of bedwetting proportions, then get narked when someone points that out to you....try and grow up.

But then most of us weren't coached by premier league standard coaches, didn't have the talent to get out of sticky situations and we were being coached many years back when the game was radically different (small boys in the park. A fag and a pint at half time).

not a personal attack, just observations on your, often, binary views
no, I didn't read your blackpool report, was it set homework or something?

improvements, as you asked;
we need to find a way to "get out" that doesn't involved passing the ball to a fullback stood near our corner-flag....
other than that, for the manager to successfully integrate the new lads and rotate the team selection to get results over a punishing season
and play good entertaining football

I don't get involved in modern day tactics-babble many seem to enjoy, probably because they've watched too much sky telly

But then most of us weren't coached by premier league standard coaches, didn't have the talent to get out of sticky situations and we were being coached many years back when the game was radically different (small boys in the park. A fag and a pint at half time).

Point was why the crowd could find the tactic so strange or alien. It goes against the grain.

I don’t like seeing this passing back so close to our goal, in the past against better teams than this team Barnsley put out yesterday we have been caught out and punished for doing just that.

But bringing at bit of realism to yesterday, we scored three goals, conceding none and it was our highest score of the season so far.

We have a new manager, young players who have come into the team this season, plus new ones and have only played six games so far so they are still gelling into a team, the understandings will develop as this season progresses.

In those sic games we still remain undefeated.

We will be facing a much better side on Tuesday night than Barnsley, that will be the real test.

Maybe at the half way stage of the season we could revisit this thread and then have a truer picture of how things are.
