Sporting achievements. Non

I seem to have ruffled a few feathers with my ‘British’ thing. Indeed I meant the exact opposite to how some have interpreted my remarks.

1. The ‘British’ (do I mean English?) tend to build up sports people with their expectations only to disown them when they err in some way. You only have to go back the Euros to see how the idiots disowned and disparaged the footballers who missed penalties.
2. Emma Raducanu, with a Romania father and a Chinese mother, born in Canada and lived much of her in the UK is the epitome of the mongrel British person, and good for her. I, for example, have a Welsh father and an English mother, with a French name and, to make things worse, live in the north of England. It is a shame that our government doesn’t recognise this fact and stop their officious and nasty immigration policy.
3. Raducanu has joint nationality and so quite legitimately, in a reverse to Rudetski, could in the future choose to become a Canadian. I wonder what people might think then.
4. Finally, can we recognise that we are all human and allow people to choose where they want to live rather than to refer to them in pejorative terms such as immigrants, asylum seekers or refugees.

Points 1 and 4 completely contradict one another. You start the post pejoratively generalising about one set of people then finish on the moral high ground criticising others who do the same. Quite the journey in one post.

Anyway, well done Emma, you're a credit to lots of great nations.

Clearly we have a different understanding of the English language, SDD.

Pejorative means to express disapproval, which is what you were doing about ’the English’ using a generalisation formed from a small number of abusive idiots following the euros (many of whom weren't actually English anyway).

You seemed to be being pejorative about Raducanu in your other post too, questioning her nationality and the significance of her achievement. God knows why, it's a great achievement.

You are beginning to sound like a troll now, SDD.

Yeah he's just a dick with a massive chip on his shoulder. He'd do well to remember the massive advantage his background handed him compared to Hamilton's. Lewis isn't perfect by any means but he's much more grounded than pretty much anyone else considered to be the pinnacle of his sport.

Didn’t even check on Hamilton to see if he was ok underneath his car !

Was due a grid penalty anyway for a new engine apparently.

Well if you will talk shite then try to justify it with a hypocritical four point lecture you'll get told you're talking shite won't you.

Dear Troll

Apart from your clear lack of understanding of the English language as demonstrated by the idiosyncratic way you interpret it, I understood that people on this site were allowed to have views other than yours.

I apologise if I have misunderstood the rules and that you are always correct in what you say.

With love

The Hypocrite (according to you)

I've honestly no idea in what way you are accusing me of not understand the English language.

In any case that is the weakest form of argument in my view, other than crying that you're not allowed to have your own opinions whenever someone disagrees with you. Other than that - a great post.

The good thing is that Hamilton has proven time and again that he is able to rise above pretty much anything thrown at him these days. He'll play the long game and Verstappen's antics won't affect him at all. Lewis will keep his cool and keep collecting points with the minimum amount of risk. Of the two I would expect Verstappen to have a meltdown at some point and that should result in Lewis prevailing in the end.

I am enjoying seeing Hamilton have to work for his title this year though. If he wins this one, it will be thoroughly deserved. I just really hope he manages to get the job done because, as you say, Verstappen is hard to like. He had a very privileged upbringing and has had many moments of extremely unpleasant petulance on his way up. Although he has matured somewhat in the past two seasons he still strikes me as pretty immature for his age. He still has plenty of growing up to do IMO.

I really don't think we should use the word "mongrel" to describe any person of mixed heritage.

Apart from the fact that it's an insulting, demeaning word, it also admits the concept of a pure breed. Which, when applied to human beings is a very dangerous road to go down.

Fair comment, it was not meant to be demeaning, in any way, just a lack of language dexterity (and perhaps, someone could suggest, a better word for what I am saying?) but still does not totally explain my initial comment which to say that we are ALL from different backgrounds and of different heritage albeit Anglo-saxon, celtic, nordic, viking, german, indian, ugandan, but the racists amongst us, and by that I don't mean you David, have tried to infer that I am being racist when in fact I am trying (and clearly failing) to be exactly the opposite. But hey!

There is a lot of talk that once Lewis retires, there will be no one to stop Max taking several titles. I think those people might underestimate Norris and Russell. The future is bright for the years ahead.

I know you weren't being racist, it's just that language is so important when discussing this very sensitive issue. I'm pretty sure that mixed heritage or maybe dual heritage are both acceptable but don't quote me on that !

Re your point that we are all ultimately a product of different people from different races or heritage if you prefer, I absolutely agree.

Once you get into the area of "purity" and thus implied superiority/inferiority then that is a horrible place to go. And we all know where that belief system led us in the last century.
