Matchday Programs

It's starting to happen, the demise of progs. Poole now only offer an on line one, with a team sheet available at the match for 30p.

I buy a programme at most home games, but won't be anymore. Really poor and just an advertising leaflet now. Nothing of substance and no stats. Such a shame. A cost cutting exercise too far that will become a reason for someone to argue "waning sales make it unviable" or "no longer relevant in the digital age". Both statements are bullcrap.

Probably bought our last home one ever yesterday, didn't get one v WBA as they sold out early - like they have done for decades first game of the season.

They'll probably print extra first match next season that nobody will buy just for the fixtures!

All you really need is for a programme to have a report and pictures from the previous couple of games, a team photo and pen pictures of the opposition, results, stats and fixtures and maybe for the kids to get signed, a feature page on a player with a nice portrait. Oh and a few ads for the local businesses to pay for it. 10 -15 pages max and knocked out for a quid. The last one I bought, Wolves in 2019 ? was a glossy magazine with too many posy shots of players in front of sponsors signs with about 8% relevance to the match.

One of the reasons a lot of people are looking at their phones is more info online on the game(s) than programmes.

Ironically having collected programmes for many years I stopped buying around the time we went into the PL!

I have one if you want it (WBA). PM me and we can arrange to meet before the Barnsley game.

You’re welcome to my West Brom one.

I agree there are too many photos of players pouting and looking all “ serious “ - why can’t people smile these days !
But the best bits of a programme are the articles on historical games v the opponents, stuff about previous AFCB seasons or the history of AFCB , players , managers etc - keeps the link to our past and hopefully encourages today’s supporters to have an interest in our past ….

Today was the last chance saloon for the programme today. The fixture\results list page has returned plus several other "expected" items such as next away game travel and around the other teams at AFCB. However, despite red and black being our colours as background difficult to read in my view. Programmes are across the generations but it is difficult to see where AFCB's is aimed at despite all the qualifications in the media department.

With regret I have decided not to buy any more. We all do out bit for the club but it works both ways and I hate to be "abused" and taken for granted.

Now 80 pages instead of 64 so a big uplift from early issues. Think the focus is on younger audience given a lack of in-depth writing and high reliance on colour pictures, large print and eye catching graphics.

Think for £3 though it’s a reasonable production. Flick through match of the day magazine or match! and you will see far greater content and information in the atcb programme.
