That prat Stroud

He was just bizarre. Zemura's yellow stands out for me when put against a couple of the QPR tackles but then he didn't give him a second yellow for throwing the ball into the crowd. Also I thought he gave them a couple of free kicks that were very dubious but when they took them quickly he pulled them back and let AFCB get into position. Why, it was almost as if he knew he'd given the wrong decision in the first place and was desperate to even it up, but, of course, I'm sure that never happens:innocent::whistle:;).

Refs have to declare which team they support, presumably at the start of their career, and they aren't then allowed to ref that team. I think. Pretty sure it was something like that.

He's a Luton fan so no connection to the club. If you start keeping refs away from matches of places they've lived it'd get challenging very quickly.

Fair point !

There would be no refs left to take Manchester based clubs as the top ones seems to come that area generally.

Thought he was bad for both sides, if ever so slightly bias towards them in terms of free kicks.

We do have a few players who do get hot headed quite quickly, Brooks is a prime example. Gets a stupid booking then on eggshells for the rest of the game

Two incidents stood out for me:

Booking of Pearson. BP was following through with the ball AS the ref blew for a free kick. He didnt kick the ball away and it should not have been a booking.

He gave QPR a free kick and then let them take it even though he was still lecturing Phil Billing. As a result they had an unfair advantage as PB was unable to get back to help defend.

at one point last night the CB pretty much picked solanke up and threw him to the side right in front of ref and he gave nothing. sums his proformance up really

The Pearson booking was fair. The whistle was long gone.
Not what I heard right in front of me.
Out of interest were you watching at the ground or on TV as I have noticed lately that sound tracks on Sky football are a split second ahead of the picture?

That happened a lot at corners also. their number ? with his arms right around Kelly stopping him from moving, right in front of the ref too.

First free kick of the game one of the CB I think just ran forward with both arms out I suppose to put our defenders on edge

And yet, given they're complaining about being hard done by last night I would take anything they say about him with a pinch of salt.

We won...so it should only be Rangers moaning ?
A neutral would probably have it that the ref was the same for both sides.

Its the same every week on the Forum..our players do virtually nothing wrong...the other teams are hackers and the ref is sh*te.

Ive just got back from a local non - league game which we won 2-1.. our fans berated the Ref and Lino's non stop from kick off..the poor tw@ts got virtually no decisions wrong...the tackling was fierce and ugly from both teams....

I was searching for another incident (sending off of a Brentford player in a play-off semi after an 'exemplary sliding tackle' (a Brentford supporter's words)) but this gem came up.

The worst refereeing decision I've ever witnessed at St. James' Park - YouTube

He is just incompetent.

I'm trying to work out whats going on here.

If the ref is giving a free-kick to Burton, it can only be because the Newcastle player touches the ball with his standing foot before he strikes it into the net. This looks plausable from the angle we have.

But look at where the freekick to Burton is being taken from. If you freeze the picture, you can see a Newcastle player encroaching into the area before the kick. (yes there were a couple of Burton players encroaching as well, but the Newcastle player was most blatant)
The free kick is placed by the ref at the spot where the encroaching Newcastle player was.

Now surely he's not given the freekick for encroachment, has he?? That would be completely wrong in law, the correct decision would be to retake the penalty.

If the Newcastle player touched it twice, then it IS a freekick to Burton, but on the penalty spot as that is where the (technical) offence occurred.

That's the conclusion I came to, but the free-kick is taken from where the encroaching player was....:hmmm:

He can't be that bad to be given the job at this level !...are they not All bad anyway if they give an opposing team a decision ?
Many football fans are just so dense and their minds are polarised in just one direction from kick- off to last whistle.

Players in general, in this era are their own enemies with their antics. Refs are just p*ssed off with it all..
