Non - Pandemic

Why, 81% fully vaccinated and rising with a programme in place for boosters.
We need a minister for keeping the economy open not shutting it down.
81% of those eligible for the vaccine I think.

I would have thought a minister devoted to the pandemic full time would actually help keep the economy open?

Well on the basis we already have a Minister for the Health Service and various Covid committees why would we need another Minister.
We have moved on from a pandemic now thanks to the vaccination programme, there may have been a time 18 months ago when it may have been helpful but I doubt it.
Re the vaccines it is 81% of those deemed to need it, they are expanding it to schoolkids with a single dose but there is a lot of debate about whether it is really necessary. There were some figures today that say that 90% of kids have already got antibodies.

I wonder if there will be a third country!

Northern Ireland has pleaded for the military to help hospital services, saying they are "under pressure as never before" in the COVID crisis.

Health minister Robin Swann said staff are "exhausted" and that he was "determined to activate any measure that can alleviate the situation in any way".

Earlier, he appealed to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to send up to 100 armed forces medics to Northern Ireland to support two hospitals that are struggling to deal with the number of coronavirus patients.

The military could be called in to help Scotland's ambulance service which is facing "acute pressure", Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

Scotland's first minister apologised "unreservedly" for long waiting times and confirmed that targeted military assistance to help deal with "short-term pressure points" is under consideration.

The announcement came as Ms Sturgeon was questioned about the death of Gerald Brown, a 65-year-old from Glasgow, who reportedly died after waiting 40 hours for an ambulance.

The first minister said the pressures were due to the coronaviruspandemic.

That should be part of COBRA decision making but hasnt been done well so far.

Still the same uncertainty round education, travel, demand on the nhs as there was 12 months ago. What is being managed better?

12 months ago no one was vaccinated :slap:As of today 44,229,777 are fully vaccinated.
Death rates per case down, hospitalisation rates down, serious illness rates down, patients on ventilation rates down. 90% of kids wiith antibodies. Will that do for starters.

It was in a number of newspaper reports yesterday. Official ONS data. When I said kids it was 16-24 year olds which to an oldie like me means kids of going out age. !!!!! Apologies for any confusion. Don't think they have tested them younger than that.

Ah ok! I was assuming under 16's ie the age group that's unvaccinated.

Hopefully with the younger children being vaccinated they will soon have levels as high, although whether they should be vaccinated and parental choice etc is understandably a big issue I know.

Didn’t see many masks when queuing to go in or just inside after entering into concourse.

COWS

On arrival at Vitality Stadium, the club strongly recommend that face coverings continue to be worn, especially in concourses/toilets and we ask that you continue to practice good hand hygiene protocols. We would ask that you respect other supporters’ space when queueing as well as moving around and leaving the stadium. Sanitiser will be available prior to entry via the turnstiles and again on the concourses.

There will be at least one other person interested in this in the FT about half an hour ago:

"Vaccinated passengers will be able to travel to the US from the EU and UK from November onwards, the Biden administration will announce on Monday, in a major diplomatic victory for Brussels and London.

The White House will announce a new travel policy on Monday morning, marking the end of the 18-month blanket ban on travel imposed by Donald Trump, the former US president, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic that was maintained by Joe Biden.

Three people with knowledge of the policy told the Financial Times that Monday’s announcement will mean that fully vaccinated passengers will be able to travel once the ban is lifted within weeks."
