Taking The Knee

Racial issues are indeed everywhere, Brian, but I don't for a second think that everything is about race .... although sometimes it feels like we are headed in that direction.

Two hypotheticals, if you will ..........

I have a choice to go for a steak and a beer with either Jack Wilshere or Josh King. I would pick Jack, seems like a decent bloke and probably can tell a good story.

Then, I have a choice to go for a steak and a beer with either Callum Wilson or Lewis Dunk. Callum, please, 100%.

Have I just gone from a racist to enlightened? Or is it just a matter of preference?
Well, they're daft examples which only you would know the answer to. I'd suggest looking a more data if you wanted a decision one way or the other.

Well, "daft" is a little harsh ........ perhaps "simplistic" is a better choice?

But my point is rather simple .......... not every choice is based on race but there sure seems to be a rush to judgement by some these these days to term such choices as "racist".

Yeah that's a sobering and level- headed angle...everyone I meet is judged on how friendly and engaging they are...you can talk and listen regarding anything 'hot' they want to discuss if things veer that way...and take or leave seeing them again.
We can make choices about who we like or dislike...we should be able, as average or above average intelligence beings to ignore 'racial' differences...if indeed we even recognise that they exist are or that they are even in any way important.
The majority of us are not bothered about Racial issues...we are not involved or affected....we just want all humans to get on together and be peaceful. Same goes for Religion.
Its quite difficult on a Football Forum to fully connect and come to compromise on outcomes with some others..on ' hot' topics...topics made more 'hot' than is necessary ..by some.
Extremist minorities are quite a problem on keyboards...

Can I just ask, are we, as a club taking the knee? It seems to me it is being left to individuals in the team to make the choice. I was rather hoping we would still do it as a team and/or a club. I had a prat sitting next to me at the QPR game who applauded when the bulk of the team didn't take the knee. Just to say, if you wish to oppose racism it's a long term project and for AFCB and players to stop doing it now will not help the long term strategy to stop racism

When did anyone last here any racist abuse at DC? 11 years ST holder I genuinely can’t think of anything around me.

It’s all an act of righteousness, which is ridiculous, we are all there for the same reason! Watch the cherries and support them.

there has been the odd comment on here about hearing it over that time. regardless, don;t see the point in the point in getting annoyed or making an issue of taking the knee, but everyones different and clearly bothers some.

Players of all races play together without any sign of racism. Surely that in itself is a strong message. I don't feel there is much racism among our greater fanbase compared to some clubs.

The biggest surprise for me with taking then knee is that I always knew the k was silent but didn’t realise there was a silent n too. So much to learn, so little time.

This my point! Search back on here look how much stick players got for being too short… Flahaven, Igoe both from memory.

Shaun Macdonald makes one poor pass and he’s a ginger *****

Lee Tomlin was labelled on this very forum as a fat *****

Where do you draw the line? Take the knee for overweight people, preach about people being born a certain height. Clap for the gingers?

Its all an act of righteousness, makes us look good to the outside world, the guy next to me will think I’m a good person, can’t we just enjoy a game of football is my opinion.

Ban those who are racist, that’s how it can be prevented at the stadium at least, online is a different issue all together.

Yeah I do agree with some of that, in that it's not pleasant for person to be a wrong end of insults for something they can;t change: ie the ginger stuff.

Usually you hear people say that ginger people weren't subject to the whole slavery thing, persecuted etc. Still out of order imo, always thought that.

Fat people are fair game, in fact fat shaming should be encouraged as that is something in peoples control (vast majority of the time) and is on the increase :D

Its 30 seconds out your week. Go to the toilet, put some headphones in, or turn up after the game starts. The other 9500+ can clap through it I’m sure you can too regardless of opinion

Probably because football is one of the only industries where black people get a fair crack of the whip in terms of opportunity to show what they've got. I would think they feel a duty to use their profile to highlight the injustices they experience in other walks of life... And here you are telling everyone how inconvenient that is for you. I'm sure they feel for you. :grinning:
