Taking The Knee

I think if they want to take the knee, we should respect that and if they don't want to, also respect that. Just because they don't take the knee, it doesn't mean they are not equally appalled by racism. It is about how the players want to express themselves and not what we would/would not do ourselves. We should support what they decide.

I've been a season ticket holder for 21 years and have never witnessed a racist incident.

Just an overrepresentation of ethnic minorities in football - which I have no complaints about.

What amazes me most in all of this is , and I can only say this in our case, is those who are against taking the knee and don't applaud , or whatever, then go on to support and cheer a team that , certainly on Tuesday , had( has) more black ethnicity players in it than white ! The irony!

Why can't supporting a team with players of all races be exclusive of applauding a lip service virtue signal?

That's odd because I've been going since 1984 and I've seen plenty.

I remember Cox and brisset getting some vile stick from our own 'supporters'.
Thankfully those types of options are either dying out or at least the racist element feel less comfortable in shouting them out, which is after all the point of taking the knee.

It's a way of showing people that this sort of behaviour is no longer acceptable.

If you are so angry with life that you are upset about a 30 second gesture then I'd suggest you have much bigger problems than having someone clap an anti racist stance.

You're quite right but possibly slightly missing my point. ' Apparently not supporting taking the knee can be construed as a sign of racism by some. Of course that is a ridiculous assumption. I personally don't applaud taking the knee or give a thought either way regarding the players that take it as I'm there purely to support my team who has players of all ethnicities in it. The irony is aimed at those who are racist , or make racist comments at a team they support which on Tuesday was made up of more black ethnicities than white players

The point of applauding the taking of the knee was a reaction to the people who started booing it.

The idea was to drown out those who objected to players taking a stand against racism.

The knee and the announcement send a clear and public message. The fact that it is booed I'm some places show that it is still needed.

There is still racism in the game, as in the population as a whole. There can be a nastiness about football crowds, ever wonder why no current footballers have come out as gay? It's because they fear the response of some in the crowd. Can't think of any other workplace where that is the case.

The origins of why people were taking the knee was an insult to real victims because it was the consequence of what happened with George Floyd, yeah maybe he shouldn't have died like that but the bloke was a horrible immoral bully kunt who didn't care about his own race beforehand, it was then hijacked by the Marxist BLM wrongun's who don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to morality and racism. Logically it wouldn't have been so divisive if it wasn't for these reasons originally.

Ah, the refuge of the immoral right wing. Blame the victim.

He was a nasty kunt, a bent cop doesn't change that, it just so happened that he got killed by a cop who had white skin. When anyone else get's murdered for being bully kunts like those Essex Boys who got their brains blown out it's just part of the plan because the perpetrators were also white.

So, he deserved to get murdered?

I literally said in my first message maybe he didn't deserve to die like that despite him being a kunt. How many nice people die unjustly everyday but don't get the sympathy because there's no political or racial incentive to their demise.
So we’ve established that it wasn’t his fault. I wonder who caused this movement to start.

Well that's not completely accurate as he was high on meth and had just stolen something so he did have a part to play in his demise. The truth is Stan that your political side went full phucking stupid because in a few weeks they made a horrible bully degenerate a martyr, made him more famous than MLK and an icon of racial injustice and in the process got BLM and all the drones as their front marketing centre piece and then got their drones to vandalize and cause division, what a phucking great strategy as you made white hillbillies look like geniuses.

That’s not true.

That’s not true. It was an American footballer in 2016 who knelt during the national anthem. See below.

The gesture originated in a 2016 American football game, during which Colin Kaepernick and his 49ers teammate Eric Reid chose to kneel during the playing of the US national anthem, to call attention to the issues of racial inequality and police brutality.

"After hours of careful consideration, and even a visit from Nate Boyer, a retired Green Beret and former NFL player, we came to the conclusion that we should kneel, rather than sit, ... during the anthem, as a peaceful protest," said Reid. "We chose to kneel because it's a respectful gesture. I remember thinking our posture was like a flag flown at half-mast to mark a tragedy“
