Cardiff City v AFC Bournemouth

Welcome! Thank you for your comments! Am intrigued to hear what the general consensus is re McCarthy and his style of play? I completely get where you’re coming from in that you have lost quality and expectations are naturally lower this year, but surely you should still expect better than essentially punting the ball long at every opportunity and hoping for the best? You actually have some quite decent players at this level. Moore in particular is as well rounded a forward as you will get in the championship, I actually think his talents are wasted by just looking for his head at every opportunity. Bacuna and Vaulks are also more than decent at this level. Personally think that you should still be expecting better than that in all honesty, even Hull were a better watch than you and I believe they will finish comfortably in the bottom 2.

The problem is that we have a threadbare squad with no wingers, having lost the like of Hoilett, Harry Wilson, Ojo and loaned out Josh Murphy. When Mick arrived at the beginning of the year, we played some lovely attacking football and Moore benefited from having four decent wingers. This season, the width should be coming from wing backs but we don't have any effective players to fulfil that role. Without that outlet, we have resorted to the safety first hit and hope style over the past few games. We do have Ryan Giles on loan from Fulham, who has great potential, but he has been struck down by covid.

Whereas the playoffs would be the minimum expectation normally, the emergence and development of five or six decent prospects from the academy is seen as more important to the majority of fans. There are plenty who are moaning about the present style of football, but Mick is a stayer who will develop teams, even though that will take time.

With a fit again Ryan Giles, we should see a much better balanced side and Moore and James Collins will certainly benefit from his wing play and crossing ability.

Great input, thanks for posting.
MM might not be everybody’s cup of tea but he is probably the type of manager you need right now. He’ll get the most out of what’s at his disposal today and as you say, he’ll probably stick around until better players come through. Pragmatic seems to be his vibe and that is probably just the type of manager you need to some day turn the corner.

Good luck and thanks for the three points

Thanks for your post. So nice that fans can still have civil conversations!

Mick McCarthy this morning:

"It was a difficult result, we were playing against one of the teams that will finish in the top two I think.”

"They're an almost perfect Championship team, it was always going to be a tough ask but for 55 minutes I was delighted.”

"We had set up to frustrate them, we blinked once and they played it through us and then we got opened up a bit, but they kept going and fought to the very end."

That's high praise from a manager who's not exactly a friend of the opposition. But "setting up to frustrate" against a side not far off in the league table ... tells its own story about the messy situation at CCFC.

Not sure it still works this way ,but don't the club have to pay for tickets they dont sell, hence they only ask for tickets they think will sell out ?
could well be like this, I think I was reading that Barnsley were given/requested less tickets then we had

Watched the extended highlights on COWS earlier and both Christie and Billing liked to get into positions to have shots, Billing more than Christie yesterday.

Only one of their attempts resulted in a goal, but good to see our midfielders not afraid to have shots at goal.
