    Looking UP the league table

Last night's pulsating 0-0 at Brentford kept the greasy-haired, watch tapper's side in contact with the relegation pack although not close enough. But who cares about a team 13 points behind us? Those lovable scamps at Brighton are less than one win ahead, have a tough end-of-season and must...

Anyone need a lift back from Luton to Poole/Bournemouth?

It may be possible that someone has not yet managed to sort out all their travel arrangements back from Luton on the 6th of April. I have spare passenger seats if anyone needs a lift. Not looking for any share of costs as I am travelling anyway (a cup of coffee at Fleet services wouldn't go...

    Luton away tickets

Luton is the next away match for which tickets have not yet been offered for sale. The Premier league website says: The Premier League has committed to giving supporters a minimum of six weeks’ notice (from the first match in the relevant month) on broadcast selections until December 2023, and...

NON - Have you met a former footballer without knowing how famous they were?

I was lucky enough to meet a Welshman by the name of Horace Cumner when I was at school in Poole. My great uncle told me that he had played for Poole Town. However, Horace told me great stories of playing for Arsenal before and after the Second World War. He would surely have had a wonderful...

    Just got back

Although the word, just is relative. I had to clear some snow, fill up the bird feeders, put some washing in, eat, drink, blahdy, blahdy, blah, blah. The bus from Brixton to Norwood Junction (an otherwise excellent tip) took almost twice as long as scheduled due to the extra traffic on the...

    Transport for Wednesday night

This has been mentioned on other threads but perhaps it requires one of its own for folks to leave suggestions. Last night, I received the e-mail from the club, Your matchday information for Palace. It contained these words: SEVERE DISRUPTION ON RAILWAYS There will be a limited London...

    Sheffield United away

Tickets appear to be going fast. Surely, there must be more released than those currently on offer. If so, does it mean that, once again, the worst seats are being offered first?

    The Everlasting Bookshelf

Inspired by the Never Ending Jukebox and the recent cautionary tale, The Player of Casterbridge, how about a recurring thread for books? Someone once asked me who my friends* are and I replied, "those that have music their heads and books on their shelves." Apart from common decency, there are...

    Cherwell Valley services

Yesterday, on the way up to Liverpool, I continued the AFCB education of one about International supporters. Of course, no away day would be complete without a stop at a typical British motorway service station. Could that be a more visited one Bournemouth supporters then show Cherwell Valley...

    Non - Perseids

It is the peak night for the Perseids meteor shower tonight. Just seen the most spectacular one streak across but as it is only just dark, I am going to set the alarm for three hours time and hope for more.

    Have a great afternoon.

I feel sure that everyone that can't make it today because of distance, finances, age, infirmity, family or work commitments or any other reason will be envious come three o'clock. A new season always begins with new hope and optimism that this season will be successful. This season is no...

    Everton away

Kick off at 16.30 on the 28th May. Now assuming there isn't a complete SNAFU with a dummy bomb sending us all home, this can't be changed. can it? All the Premier League matches have to kick off at the same time. Confirm or deny anyone?

    Palace tickets

Now on sale to 10+ points holders. They are either selling incredibly quickly or the club is holding back swathes of seats. Whatever, don't get caught with a restricted view!

    Odd Three Out

Around this time last season I ran a weekly running total league table to express the maximum points available to each team. That charted our securing the second promotion place (although, of course, the second automatic position did actually belong to Nottingham Forest and we cheated them). I...

    NON - Football grounds quiz

I was in thinking of setting up a little quiz of my own, but the pesky, gin-soaked, communist journos at The Guardian* got there first. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/mar/22/football-quiz-can-you-identify-these-stadiums-and-pitches-close-to-water *See Ben Elton's Thin Blue Line.

    24 years ago today

We beat Bristol Rovers at home. We were fourth in the table at the time, four points above a team called Manchester City. They went up, we finished seventh. The only goal of the match was scored by a defender in the second half. Wonder what happened to him?
