Looking For Another Home Win Against a Welsh Club

The Cherries notched up their first win since they beat Swansea City at Dean Court in November coming away with all three deserved points. It was a good all round team display against Queens Park Rangers winning with the only goal of the game, but what a great goal it was coming off the head of our leading scorer Dominic Solanke with his 17th Championship goal of the season and MOM against QPR.

Our next game is at home against another Welsh club, Cardiff City on Thursday at 7.45 pm.
When we last played Cardiff City in Wales, their manager was Mick McCarthy.
After our win there (which was the second game of 8 defeats in a row for McCarthy’s team ). His style of football had proved successful when he first joined Cardiff City, but had basically been found out and dealt with by the opposition in the Championship. After their 0-2 home defeat the 8th in a row against Middlesbrough, which was the worst run in the club’s history, McCarthy left Cardiff City and was replaced from within the club by Steve Morrison who had been in charge of the under 23’s. At the time after 14 games Cardiff City were in 21st position with 11 points.

He immediately changed the Bluebird’s style of play and stopped the rot with a 3-3 draw away at Stoke. Then in Morrison’s first home game his side lost 0-1 to QPR (our last opponents). In his next two games, his side won 2-1 at home against Huddersfield Town and then won by the same score away at Preston. Back at home they lost 0-1 to Hull City, but got back to winning ways 1-2 away at Luton. Again they lost at home, this time 2-3 against Sheffield United. Their most recent game was a 2-2 draw away against Birmingham City. The Boxing Day game home against Coventry City was called off due to COVID in the Cardiff camp.

The last time we played Cardiff City at Dean Court in February this year we lost 1-2. Cardiff City were 0-2 up at half-time with goals from Sean Morrison and a Kieffer Moore penalty. In the second have Shane Long pulled a goal back for the Cherries, but the home team couldn’t find an equaliser and the Welsh club left Dean Court with all 3 points.

In our home games against Cardiff City, AFCB have W 11, D 3, L 4.
All competitions, AFCB have W 19, D 12, L 15.

AFCB Team News
Junior Stanislas picked up a shoulder injury during the game at QPR, but after treatment continued playing, until being substituted in the second half, hopefully he will be ok for Thursday. Lloyd Kelly could be back in contention after missing the last game due Covid. Steve Cook left out of QPR because of transfer links.

AFCB Player To Watch
Our team all played well against QPR. Jefferson Lerma made a difference back in the team. Dominic Solanke had a good game tirelessly working away and after another missed headed chance, made up for it with a great headed goal, this will give him a big boost going into the next game.

Cardiff City Team News
After the press conference from the Cardiff City manager ahead of the game on Thursday, it seems no players with injuries was mentioned and they have all their players now available after their COVID outbreak.

Cardiff City Player To Watch
Kieffer Moore, the big striker is always a handful and is their leading scorer with 5 goals, also has 2 assists to his name. In midfield and leading with 9 assists is Ryan Giles, also joint top with assists in the Championship.

The Referee
James Linington is the man in charge of this game.
He was in charge of the home game against Barnsley in September.

It was agreed that the deadline for players release was moved back to I think 2nd or 3rd Jan

Before our game with QPR their manager wasn’t sure if their players would be flying out on Boxing Day.

As we discovered last night his three players were available.

Good to have another game so quickly after that good performance and win on Monday, hopefully the boys are still buzzing!
Only concern is that it looked like Dom picked up a knock in the last 30min against QPR, anyone else see him trying to run something off for 10 minutes? And fook me did he do some running!!

it is, its on the afcb match info email that just came thru

But wasn’t on website, just seen email.

Looks like we will be one of the only/few clubs in the Championship not using the vaccination/Test Passports. So games being restricted to 9,999? Personally think this is wrong. Can’t see the difference between 9,999/10,999 etc.

We have updated our previous version of the Supporter Code of Behaviour. While our match attendances do not meet the threshold for Covid Vaccination/Test Passports, we are implementing additional measures and reminding of current requirements so that we can all remain as safe as possible. It is important that you read and ahere to this Code as a condition of entry.

The expectation that stewards should be experts in cross-checking fans vaccination status is unrealistic anyway. You want proper checks then start queueing at 1230 for a 1945 kick-off.

Have we topped 10,000 this season anyway? I don’t think we have. Even if we ‘sell out’ the actual crowd is always lower due to illness and other reasons.

Thanks both, good to have him for another game.
According to daily mail players can play on 3rd of Jan so JZ could do posh and Cardiff.

Other sources suggest that any ban on Zimbabwe would come after afcon given deadline set was too soon. Some of the staff already flown to the tournament in advance.
