AFC Bournemouth v Liverpool

Today showed what a bloody good side we are.

Playing the best team in the country with half our squad out injured and a referee that was completely biased against us, and it took a dodgy penalty and a piece of magic to beat us. Even with all that going against us, we had so many moments we should have profited from and could have easily gotten a result on another day. They are the best team in the league by a distance and we were as good as them on the day.

Premier League Match Centre on X have tweeted: "The referee’s call of penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed to have been a trip by Cook on Gakpo. The VAR also confirmed Gakpo was onside in the build-up."
from where I was sat Salah (or whoever it was on the right wing at the time) looked a metre offside in the build up, at least a dozen people were shouting at the lino before the penalty was given. 3 scousers in blue today.

Got to the stadium and the big screen shows Forest 7-0 against Brighton.

Funny old game football after our team thrashing Forest 5-0 last week.

But today as the game went on you just knew it wasn’t going to be our day.

Referee giving the rub of the green decisions to Liverpool.

Was it a penalty? The referee thought so and also after a long delay VAR agreed (see video).

We looked like we had equalised when David Brooks put the ball into the net, only for one of our players to have slightly been offside.

Then substitute Marcus Tavernier had a great shot that hit the post and the ball came out to Justin Kluivert and it looked like he may put it into the net, but he missed the target of an open goal.

When Mo Salah had the ball out on the right and cut in to get the ball on his favourite left foot I had a feeling that was going to be his second goal and it was.

For a change the visiting side had more shots than us and also on target.

AFCB 14 shots, 3 on target. Liverpool 19 shots, 7 on target.

Feel a little robbed, another day we take at least a point. Game was very very even and Liverpool really didn't look that great. Not too upset that the runs finally come to a end against what is apparently one of the best sides in Europe

Did I read on here that Darren England was removed from reffing Liverpool games after making a gaffe against them, with this one being his first game reffing them since? Well, it was pretty clear he was trying to make amends!
Yes he made a bad decision in the Spurs game last year and not reffed them since. That’s the problem with these long club bans… human nature to be aware of not costing them in the next game else you are in the Michael Oliver territory v Arsenal. He was always likely to give things that were 50/50 in their favour.

The commentators on NBC/USA alluded to that. Sixteen months since his last match involving Liverpool.

Regardless of the result I really enjoyed the game and it showed how far we have come as a team. Mo Salah's goal was magnificent.

We stuck to our task. Honorourable mentions for Tav when he came on, Kirkez, Christie, Semenyo (they were frightened of him) and Zabaryni but I think Adams just shaded MOM.

Sky Match Report.

Things did not go the home side's way during a first half in which they hit the post, had a goal disallowed and fell behind following a contentious penalty award.

It was from a quick transition, the kind at which Bournemouth have excelled this season, that Liverpool won their spot-kick.

Gakpo seemed to have got clear of Cook as the pair chased a long ball into the home side's box. The Liverpool player tripped, though there was more than a suggestion that he may have stumbled over his own foot. VAR upheld Darren England's on-field decision, and from the spot Salah slipped the ball just beyond the dive of Kepa.

The same happened with Barry Knight. Didn’t ref us for ages after, then gave us everything.
