AFC Bournemouth v Liverpool

Regardless of the result (no disgrace to lose to the champions elect) it was a real shame that it was spoiled by the poor quality of refereeing...something that you can't really legislate for?

You need a level playing field when taking on the big clubs, more often than not it just doesn't happen that way.

Not sour grapes as we lost because we couldn't score and Liverpool did that. Whether or not it would have made any real difference if we had Evanilson and Smith fit along with a few others to bring off the bench we will never know?

I do wonder what does get into the psyche of a referee when overseeing the top players like VVD, Salah, Haaland, etc. along with the larger than life managers like Slot or Pep...must be some influences seeping from somewhere?

Just watched Ref Watch on Sky and all four decisions by the referee were upheld by the panel of three.

The penalty against Lewis Cook, David Brooks goal for offside, our handball appeal against Trent Alexander-Arnold and the second foul by Alexis Mc Allister, but no second yellow card.

Really?????

Surely that last should have been a nailed-on yellow card

Not a second yellow in their opinion.

They all agreed Cook clipped their player for the penalty.

Again watching myself I couldn’t see a foul just their player falling.

But they probably have slowed it down and had closeups which were not shown on programme.

I totally agree with all of those decisions, it was a pen for sure. If it was given for us, no one would be saying the ref made a mistake. The issue is that with the less clear cut decisions, fouls etc is that refs subconsciously favour the heavyweight teams. I don't think a ref goes out favouring one side or the other.

I kind of forget except for two weekends a year but VVD gets away with so much to the point I wonder if he's actually that good. I recall at one point him striking Dango in the face with his palm when he was done for pace and getting away with it.

I'm sure there is a large dose of "Player X is an excellent player as he plays for Big team Y" therefore he
a) wouldn't have gone down if he wasn't tripped
b) wouldn't have intentionally fouled little team Z's player
c) wouldn't have handled the ball intentionally
d) has earned the right to "speak to"/ surround the referee
e) deserves to win as on the balance of probability the ref is a scouse puppet
