Sixth-placed Bournemouth are only four points behind Liverpool, in fifth, and have a game in hand, which is against title-chasing Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Cherries only need one more point to guarantee a top-eight finish - to seal at least a place in the Conference League.

But if they do manage an upset against Pep Guardiola's City side and follow it up with a win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, they could overtake Liverpool - provided Arne Slot's side lose to Brentford on the final day.

Even if Bournemouth miss out on fifth, finishing sixth might be enough to secure Champions League football.

That is because if Villa win the Europa League and finish fifth in the Premier League, England will have six teams in the Champions League.

For that to happen, Villa would need to lose at City on the final day. A Liverpool victory at Brentford would then move the Reds above them.

However, as it stands, sixth place will seal a place in the Europa League for Bournemouth.

One point from two difficult games secures European football, we may not even need that if others fail. Everyone wishes for Champions League entry, but for me it's the Europa Conference that is my dream. But be careful what you wish for, in the Champions League we will be going to places renowned for violence. Our fans will be in constant danger at the big Italian cities and several of the French, Spanish or Turkish ones. In the Conference and also the Europa League we will be going to great places like Ljubljana, Tallin or Valletta. Sitting in a pavement cafe in the sun surrounded by friendly locals' beats dodging the truncheons and bottles in Marseilles. That also leaves the champions league as an ambition. I often wonder how fans of the Sky six get excited having won it all several times over.
Think that is a bit alarmist. Most games in the champions league are uneventful.

Doubt there are many Ultras desperate to get at the Zimmer crew.

I am more concerned we will get treated with pity than animosity.

Very strange.
I presume you were born in 1954.
Like me you’re getting in a bit. I’d rather we got into champions league ASAP.

I seem to be reading that there could/will be two Europa League spots? Is that right?

Doesn't matter in the end I suppose - if we can manage to stay undefeated for 2 more games, something good will happen.

The average positions of the starting line-ups are below. Man City play heavily in the opponents half, leaving a lot of space behind if the opposition are good enough to counterattack at pace.

As per for example this comment from Matt's post, City are fragile when teams attack. To provide a technical phrase, they don't like it up 'em.
For example the Everton draw, the Toffee's had a half hour period in the second half, when they were all over the light blues.

The disadvantage for us of course is the attacking threat that City pose, which is extraordinary if they're on form.

But, they have weaknesses, and Big Man Rayan could be the guy, with a pacey cameo from Gannon-Doak.

It’s quite simple, it’s not a black and white world. My priority is entertainment but when you’ve done that and get to the last two games if you can’t entertain then get the job done.

Luckily our waiter friend normally does both so we don’t have to have the argument.
so you've managed to blank out all those tedious nil-nils then buddy?
sounds like selective amnesia

don't forget your flip-flops tomorrow night, paint your nails in preparation

The last time we met a team from the Manchester area in a match that meant promotion or relegation with two games to go, was back towards the end of April in 2015 which was an evening game, that team was Bolton.

Tomorrow night does not mean promotion or relegation but a first chance for this club to get into a European competition for the very first time. Again our opponents are from Manchester and again it is an evening game.

It will be a tense and exciting evening for all the fans in the stadium, for the away fans depending on the Arsenal result tonight it could mean their team needing all 3 points, but for the home fans a draw will do.

If the game ends like the Bolton game and it being our manager’s last game at home, it will certainly be a night to remember like 11 years ago.

I think the confusion arose if Chelsea had won the FA Cup but finished outside of the Euro places, in which case, I think one of the Europa League places would have been surrendered. I think!

You can have entertaining 0-0s bud.

You’re right it is a night of celebration. To the most successful manager we’ve ever had. What a time to be alive. Got your Spanish flag?

thought flags weren't your thing, buddy, or does that only apply to those you don't like?

I was bored shitless for most of the nil-nils

Well he’s gone now so you can relax and look forward to a better more entertaining manager. I know the last three years have been tough for you. It will be good to see you on here more often pal.

From today’s press conference re the last question from MM re the Council Meeting to pass the plans etc.

Part of answer from Andoni Iraola.

I hope when I come here in 2, 3 seasons now we can see everything finished and it's going to be lovely for sure. Thank you.
