Will The Canaries Come Cherry Picking?

After our Premier League 0-3 win against Fulham, AFCB have a Fourth Round League Cup tie against Championship side Norwich City (the Canaries) at Dean Court on Tuesday night. In the 2014-15 season in the Championship, AFCB and Watford were promoted automatically to the Premier League. The other side to join them via the play-off final was Norwich City. They had already finished in 3rd place in the Championship. Norwich City lasted one season in the Premier League and were relegated at the end of it.

At the weekend Norwich were home against Brentford and won 1-0 to move up into 3rd place. Norwich have a German manager, he is Daniel Farke. He joined Norwich is May 2017 from his previous club Borussia Dortmund ll, their reserve side. In his first season at the Canaries they finished in 14th position.

This season so far Norwich are going well in the League. They have played 15 games (a third of the season), Winning 8, Drawing 3, Losing 4, Goals For 20, Against 17. Points 27, two behind the leaders.
In the League Cup First Round Norwich were at home against League 2 side Stevenage, the home side won 3-1. In the Second Round they were away to Premier League side Cardiff City. The Canaries won 1-3. In the Third Round Norwich were away again, this time against League 1 side Wycombe Wanderers, Norwich won 3-4, Jordon Rhodes on loan from Sheffield Wednesday had a hat-trick.

So far in this competition after entering in the Second Round, the Cherries have been at home for every game. First against League 2 side MK Dons, AFCB won 3-0. In the Third Round we were drawn against Blackburn Rovers from the Championship. The Cherries went into the lead in the 14th minute with Junior Stanislas the scorer. They were two up in the 58th minute when Jordon Ibe went down after being fouled in the box, the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty. Ibe got up and took the penalty himself to make it 2-0. Blackburn fought back and scored two goals in a nine minute period. But 74th minute substitute for AFCB Callum Wilson scored a late injury time winner with a headed goal from a Marc Pugh corner to give the Cherries a 3-2 victory. Previous to our winner, Blackburn were weakened when a Blackburn player picked up the ball in a bizarre incident and was shown the red card.

In our meetings with Norwich City in the League Cup we have met twice in the 2000-01 season. In the First Round 1st Leg away at Norwich, it ended 0-0. In the 2nd Leg at Dean Court the game finished in Norwich’s favour 1-2. In all competitions against Norwich City, AFCB have Won 18, Drawn 15, Lost 23.
The 2000-01 season was our last season in the old stadium. It was also the season Jermain Defoe joined us on loan from West Ham, thanks to our old manager Harry Redknapp. Sean O’Driscoll replaced Mel Machin as manager and Mel became Director of Football.

AFCB Team News
Josh King will miss this game with an ankle injury. Otherwise no other injuries.

AFCB Player To Watch
With the Manchester United game a few days later, would expect Eddie to ring the changes for this game. Think Eddie will give Junior Stanislas a run out again to get more minutes under his belt. He made the difference against Blackburn Rovers in the last round.

Norwich City Team News
Teemu Pukki the Norwich City attacking midfield player and leading scorer who has been out with a hamstring injury, has been back in training, but Tuesday might be a bit early for him. Louis Thompson another midfield player will miss the game with a shoulder injury picked up in the game against Aston Villa.

Norwich City Player To Watch
Depends who plays, they have an important away game on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday. A player in form for the Canaries has been midfield player from Germany Moritz Leitner. Then there is Jordan Rhodes their leading scorer in the League Cup with 3 goals (a hat-trick) against Wycombe Wanderers.

*Putting my post here to bump the match day thread rather than the other thread*

I’d like to see us continue with the 3-4-3. That’s how I’ve seen the U23’s play recently, and even if there won’t be many players from the Fulham XI or Man Utd XI, it’s useful for the entire squad to get familiar with the system.

Boruc
Francis Simpson Mings
Ibe Surman Gosling Rico
Mousset Defoe Stanislas

Obviously Ibe at RWB is the outlier here. If he wants a first team place he needs to improve defensively. The best way for him to learn defensive side of the game is to put him in a position which demands more responsibility.

Of the youngsters, it’d be good to see Seaman and Oforborh have a run out at some point. I noticed Oforborh was sat on the bench at Fulham even if not actually a substitute.

One thing to add. Norwich are a decent side. If our shadow team lose its no disgrace. I’d expect my XI to beat a rotated Norwich XI, but they’d need to play well to do so.

To be fair that looks a strong side

Rather have Pugh at RWB than Ibe... against MK Dons when Ibe played in that position he was awful. Eddie moved him up and of course he scored a goal.

Plus it'll be good to see Pugh get some game time... unless he's injured?

I expect most the first team on the bench again, but I do think we'll be a bit stronger than above. Eddie might surprise us all and go for a cup run.

Surely Ibe should be learning that in the reserves/u21s not in an important cup game, we cant play him there.

Norwich C are in third place in the Championship and like us have an important game on Saturday.

Will they rest some of their first team players tonight like Eddie may well do?

Not 100% certain, but think Jordan Rhodes will not be available to Norwich on Saturday as they are playing Sheffield Wednesday, the club Rhodes is on loan from. So expect Rhodes to start tonight.

Unfortunately I think the problem with Ibe is that he doesn't have that football brain. To get the most out of him I suspect you just need to play him in a no 10 role and give him a free role

Just watched their managers press conference. Looks like they are going to make several changes too (3 matches in 7 days, injuries, big game at the weekend, priorities )

Ibe needs to take a look at himself, Brooks has come in and made his position his own, sadly Ibe looks like he hasn't got the brain to be a EPL player and is going to be a Championship player at best in 18 months or so.
Sad to say it but 2 Years and no improvement, he actually seems to have gone back, such a shame as he did look a talent when out on loan from Liverpool.

Hoping Eddie won't play Simpson at RCB - he struggled there against Blackburn and was lost in that position in pre-season games. As Eddie says in the Echo today, Simpson has a great left foot and is an accurate passer to all areas of the pitch. His right foot, however, is a different matter: when he tried right-foot passes in the last cup game several ended in touch.

I like Simpson a lot but let's have him at LCB where his positioning is excellent - at RCB things go badly wrong. (A thought - has Eddie been playing him there to force the issue?... making him develop his right foot and positional abilities??)

Where does that leave Mings though who is also left footed?

Good point Blandford. Maybe we can't play both at CB - I'd be more comfortable with Simpson at LCB and Cook or Francis at RCB or, if three at the back, Mings, Simpson and Francis/Cook.

Also Mings might go to LB and Rico could play ahead of him midfield - he seems to have the pace for this and has a decent shot he might try more often.

The great Norwich are coming for us...Quiver!
The Kings of East Anglia are southwards thither,
Minus a Powell, MacD or Phil B,
The Carrot Crunchers are all at sea!

Delia doing Cartwheels...high on the Mead!
Aya gotta loight boy? Oi caant foind me Caarots!

I am guessing that this is not on TV so it’s unlikely a feed will exist. Also I believe the UK clocks went back so this game will be an hour later here than normal

It's on BEIN sports so there 100% should be streams. Check in the usual places.

And your team for tonight is...

I make that eight changes. Fewer than I thought it would be. Interesting bench!
