Auckland is Bill Foley's new A-League team. I believe this is their first season.

Yep. Wellington Phoenix are seriously not happy.
I watched his leaving press conference and one of the journalists asked one of the Wellington honchos whether Foley placing Paulsen at Auckland was a possibility and they said that it wasn't. So clearly they weren't expecting this at all. They were expecting him to go to the PL and simply didn't want to stand in his way.

Hopefully we didn't BS them just to get this signing done !

My conspiracy theory is that he was due to go to Hibs but since they've started throwing their toys out of the pram we've had to rethink.

Isn't he going from NZNL to A-League? It's a bit like Wales and England with NZ and Aus except really confusing because
idn't grow up with it!
Wellington Phoenix play in the A-League against 11 Oz teams - think Welsh teams playing in the English leagues.
Few years back they started to expand and Auckland were granted franchise license this year.
Paulsen was Phoenix number one keeper and was well thought of, so going to a competitor especially a new NZ team isn't going down well.

Yeah, their fans aren't happy:

And even the club are kicking off:

Not really surprising. He is not going to be one of our goalkeepers for this season and this keeps him playing and developing in his back garden, so to speak. I would be really surprised if this wasn't always the plan. P..... Wellington Phoenix off though. :ROFLMAO:

Been keeping an eye on Auckland results and highlights as I think he has potential to be a really good keeper ( admittedly only from watching Phoenix highlights as my 'other' team)
Auckland's first 5 games since being formed, won 5 and conceded no goals. Don't think AP has had much to do but I wish our defence/ keeper was that solid!
