Alex Scott

Interesting that Tuchel played him in the 6 allowing Anderson to get forward.
Really good performance, did everything that he was asked to do but agree it's just a shame it was this way round, meant Scotty had the handbrake slightly on all game. Looked very comfortable but Anderson was popping up in the places we would normally see Scott in an AFCB shirt. But that was a very assured and composed full debut for sure.

Matthew Upton:

Outstanding. Genuinely outstanding. I'm so pleased for him. He's got a lovely manner. Lovely attitude. He's so pleased and excited and happy and hungry for what this is. Playing for his country, you can tell he wants the next bit, he wants the next step.

And he's really surprised me out of possession. That's the biggest thing I've taken from this. He has shut down avenues, angles. The way he's approached this. He's been really high level out of possesion and that will please Thomas Tuchel because that's a massive part of showing you're responsible enough in a key position. He's done brilliantly tonight.

Of the starters in this game Scott got the second lowest rating score (7.3) Pickford was 7.1.

This game was being closed doors so I wouldn't set too much store by it.

  1. 'Behind closed doors': The upcoming UEFA Nations League group stage match between Croatia and England will kick off at 5pm this evening (Saturday, October 3) at the Stadion Rujevica in Rijeka. UEFA officials ordered the fixture to be played entirely behind closed doors as a direct disciplinary consequence of crowd trouble during a previous international break. However, a loophole means 6,000 schoolchildren, accompanied by adults will be in the crowd.
They mentioned on the commentary that there were about 100 England fans in the ground, 4 of whom hadn't missed an England game for many years. Pretty certain one of those would be a local chap, works for WR Warren Builders. Don't know his name, but he's a little chap with very little hair. Am I allowed to say that these days?
