Aston Villa v AFC Bournemouth

We seem to be discussing this on 2 threads so as I mention on the other thread I think the law now is if the ball hits a defenders arm and it's accidental it's not always a penalty but if it hits an any attackers arm in the penalty box, whether deliberate or accidental, then any goal that results is disallowed.

Not any attacker, just the goalscorer.

If Dangos 'goal' against Newscastle is a handball and Baileys wasn't then we need some clarification.

Bailey watched the flight of that ball for a long time before he handled it.

Dango had mere fractions of seconds to react in comparison.

The law does clarify the difference - handball needs to be deliberate unless it's the person who scores a goal then deliberate doesn't come into it it's just whether it hit their arm or not. Making your body bigger is relevant when deciding if a handball is deliberate or not.

It is an offence if a player:

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
  • scores in the opponents' goal:
    • directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
    • immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental

Whilst there is a definition between the two, this is also forgetting that Howard Webb has already confessed that Dango’s goal should have counted as it wasn’t a “factual handball”.

The question in Dango's case was only ever about whether it hit his arm or not - matter of fact.

There is no question as to whether the ball hit Bailey's arm - it definitely did - it was whether it was deliberate or not. The position of his arm when the ball hit it is relevant in that case but not in Dango's case.

Just seen the attendance on a website and it was 42,165, their second largest attendance this season.
The official website match reports really have gone downhill in terms of content. Seemingly they cant be bothered to put the attendance figures in any more. And the Liverpool link doesn't even work.

Mings back on the pitch after a long stint injured with Villa. Unfortunately straight back into the drama, as seems to follow the bloke.

Martinez passed to Mings, Mings picked the ball up thinking the intent was that he'd take the goal kick. Confusion all round. VAR took a look and judged it was a legal goal kick and did Mings for handball. 1-0 Brugge and he's been subbed off.

Why would mings think he'd have to take the goal kick?....he's not playing for an under 11 team who's goalie can't kick it out of the area.....bizarre.

Never liked the bloke since he was on loan up there. Coming back on the train. Kissing the badge with the Villa shirt still on.
Yeah, of course he was hyped from the weekend.
