Dean Court Redevelopment

It works for Infrastructure Utd where they keep the concourse bars open for a couple of hours after the game to spread the flow of the mass exodus. They also have free train (and bus) travel within a fairly large zone for match ticket holders so allowing free train travel for our match ticket holders between, say, Wareham and Brockenhurst as well as the buses is a startlingly obvious thing to do.

It's not free though is it, it's paid out of the ticket price. 80%+ of their supporters arrive via public transport whereas it's under 15% at AFCB. Even in the best case scenario of increased use of public transport you'd still have the majority subsidising the minority.

I guess the thing is, they are specific football trains, from Brighton central, not normal service trains... I'm not convinced we'd have enuogh numbers to run specific stopping service trains to Pokesdown, from Brokenhurst and Wareham...?

But I guess surely there is something they could do with digital tickets working for both game and train scanners...? Just a QR code at the end of the day...

They are normal services I think. Perhaps with a few extra stops.

No, they are not specific football trains just normal scheduled services just the same as we could do here. Along with being paid to give our match ticket holders free passage the train co's (soon to be owned by us all anyhow) could make slight timetable adjustments so that every train running in both directions a few hours either side of a match can make a stop at Pokesdown.

Ahh ok... Having typed that and now thinking about it, and taking a phrase from my earlier post about just needing a 'tiny amount of creative thinking'... There could be mileage in creating two football (and public) stopping-services from Brockenhurst to Pokesdown and then Wareham to Pokesdown... Surely the club are considering this (Sorry, not read the travel proposals)

Sadly, I live nowhere near a train station, but if this was an option, and walk through the park, I would 100% rather just jump on the train than drive and park...

There was plans for a local DART service between Wareham and Brockenhurst with an additional station planned near the university. Not sure if that’s still in the pipeline.

All these ideas are good in theory based on a 3pm kick off on a Saturday but the fixtures are now at varying times including evening games. Train and bus services are based around 365 days and normal demand not say 23 days some of which are changed at short notice. There is also the important factor which seems to be ignored by the Football Club those coming by bus from outlying areas have reduced services in the evenings and on Sundays not many are served by the M1 and M2 although these connect.

Monorail with 2 branches. One to the station the other to park and ride near the blackwater junction. Both running up the middle of the Wessex Way.

Phase 2 is a direct non stop service to Luton.

Mass transit planning is easy. Don't know what all the fuss is about.
Money you say. How much for getting in the Champions league ?
Would be a good down payment.

No I am not serious for those wanting an argument.
Just the direct service to Luton then.

If we had a direct connection to Luton maybe Iraola would have stayed.

Read the active travel report and the officials seem unhappy that the club are only providing 300 or so cycle spaces at the ground and wanting upwards of 550. I will be amazed if these are even half full on a match day. Public bodies always seem to grossly overestimate the number of people who are prepared to cycle, especially to a midweek game in February.
The Officer was merely pointing out that the local strategy called for a higher number of bike spaces. That’s their job - to inform members - to aid decision making. It’s not a deal breaker though as it’s not a legal requirement.

I don’t think a stop at Pokesdown from the Wareham direction would be of any real benefit. It would be easier and cheaper to get off at Bournemouth and take the shuttle bus to the Stadium.

As far as I can tell the Club are trying to plan for most eventualities but the fact remains they can’t deal with all possible scenarios.
If we want the new Stadium we have to adapt and accept that easy driving and parking won’t be possible. It’s up to everyone to plan around their own situation. No one is being told they can’t drive but there will be a lot less local parking available and for a lot more people. Increased enforcement will also curb those who park where they shouldn’t, making even fewer spaces available.
I think there’s a case for some ‘special’ Bus services being run down main roads to and from the Stadium though and I’d be thinking Castle Lane to Bear Cross and Barrack Road to Somerford.
The thing I’m most interested to see is how the new car parks identified e.g Sovereign Centre will be managed. Will there be the possibility for ST holders to secure a space for the Season, as that would give a degree of certainty.
To a certain extent we will have to ‘see how it goes’ and raise issues where they occur through the Transport Working Group.

Is the TWG a club run thing?

It was definitely a thing back in the day.
Conductors especially could attract a following.
Have Hants & Dorset workers in the family and in the 70s and 80s there were plenty of examples of it ! As weird as that may seem these days.
A cheeky wink, a bit of banter and „forgetting“ to issue a ticket could get you a long way back then :p

Youre more likely to get arrested now ;D

Is the TWG a club run
It’s a jointly managed Group with BCP Rob. AFCB pay for it and pay for any identified improvements necessary if the needs arise. Councillors, Morebus and SWT also attend. There might be others that I can’t remember - emergency services possibly.
