Burnley v Leicester match called off

Saturday's Premier League fixture has been postponed due to injuries and COVID cases within the Clarets squad.

It's the fourth Burnley match postponed due to COVID this season.

The club saw three consecutive matches - against Watford, Aston Villa and Everton - called off last month.

A league statement said: "The Premier League Board accepted Burnley's application as the club does not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper), due to COVID-19 cases and injuries."
Or in other words, Burnley need to sign a replacement for Woods before they can play another league game.

So Burnley can't play a match with only 14 players.
I remember not so long ago that we did exactly that.
We had a subs bench which included a retired player(then assistant manager),who had luckily kept his registration, and a 16 year old who had already played in a youth game that morning.
I don't get this 'haven't enough players due to covid AND INJURIES'.Since when has injuries been a reason for postponement?

Who are the 14? We know there were only 14 senior players including 2 keepers last Saturday, and we know one has left since. 13 plus a goalkeeper is the minimum, and we have (depending on recoveries, and subject to new cases) 11 plus 2 goalkeepers.

Not just Burnley.

Arsenal have requested the postponement of Sunday's north London derby with Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because of a lack of available players.

The Gunners said they have "reluctantly taken this step" because of injuries, positive Covid-19 cases and players away with their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Premier League board will consider Arsenal's request on Saturday.

The difference last week was the FA made teams play regardless of their situation whereas the Premier league have rules which clubs are potentially taking advantage of.

All very convenient.....like Liverpool...all tests false positives....football is following in the government's footsteps...more corrupt by the day....:cautious:

Not just Burnley.

Players away on AFCON duty should not be included as part of the request justification. Teams with those players knew they would be away for these tournaments when they signed them.

You do wonder would they or anyone else be more prepared to play if they were facing a Watford or Norwich rather than their big rivals in a key game ?

Game postponed.

Burnley postpone again. Give it a couple of weeks and Dyche will be moaning about the unfair fixture pile up. I still think that they are scrambling around trying to replace Woods before they play again.
