Simon Francis

Even when he is on Sky you can tell he is pretty bright and knows what he is talking about . A great appointment with someone who knows the club so well.
Still probably the best right back at the club

Hard to imagine his career would have turned out like it did if he continued to reject our approaches over 10 years ago now.

Was pretty much turning into a very run of the mill, League 1 journeyman.

Thank god for Bradders and his mates!

There are many reasons to feel positive about this, but for me, the main one is whilst we seem to be undergoing a complete overhaul, we still seem to be open to keeping some elements of our journey, of which Franno was huge, in place at the club...

I read somewhere on here that Parker wants to create a legacy here... I've not seen or heard him say that myself but if true, and if he wants to completely embed himself here and he's not using us as a short-term stepping stone to a bigger club, then it's been a very positive couple of days at DC...

Playing devils advocate here isn't this another example of AFCB #jobsformates?..... following on from Blake appointing his mate as our manager and Parker replacing Simon Purches with one of his mates.

Think Parker has been referred to as a friend of Richard Hughes and not Blake.

When coaches/managers move clubs they normally take their team with them.

So if it is jobs for mates, that doesn’t just apply to AFCB.

Oh I don't doubt that doesn't just apply to us but shouldn't we be looking for the most qualified people for these positions?......we all know the criticism Eddie got for this on here but nothing seems to have changed with the new regime..... Eddie's mates have been replaced by Parker's mates.......surely we should be looking to recruit the best up and coming coaching staff we can.......I love Franno and i'm delighted he's involved in some way again but is he the most qualified man for the job?

Perhaps we have.

After all Pep and Jurgen already have jobs...

You have to bear in mind that he is in an assistant technical director role, am not sure that most clubs of our stature will even have one of these at all! Re Parker, virtually any manager takes their coaching team with them everywhere they go. We also have Gary O’Neil who has no connection to Parker.

I think that's a very fair challenge but even though it's a multimillion pound business it is still a business at heart with a relatively small number of specialist core employees. Businesses like that will run on trust.

Often people will give a "good" tradesman repeat business without seeking out a cheaper or better alternative or will offer an apprenticeship to an employees child instead of scouring for talent.

I guess in short what I'm trying to say is that yes you want the most talented person you can afford with the right personality and attitude to succeed in your business but that's hard to the point of impossible so people fall back on their connections for candidates.

I only mentioned it because of the many debates on here regarding Eddie employing his mates.......is Parker not going to be put under the same scrutiny?

Well he's only just joined and managers tend to bring a few trusted people to whichever club they join.

Also howe appointed many from his old playing days that to my knowledge had zero experience elsewhere in coaching roles.

Hasn't Parker just appointed his friends from the Tottenham U18s ?.....what coaching experience did Matt Wells have before Parker took him to Fulham?.....not a lot imo.

Worth a listen, how Simon decided that after seeing the hours Eddie put in, coaching probably wasn’t for him.

Honest interview as well, how he was ‘lazy’ in his early days as a player and how Eddie brought out the best in him.

Talks about how difficult it is now to find a ‘diamond’, someone like Harry Arter from non league football, if they are any good they have agents and are probably talking to PL clubs.

He has more to say re agents as well.

How difficult things are now in this transfer window.

His friendship in and away from the club with Richard Hughes and also Harry Arter.

Good things to say re Scott Parker and what he has already bought to the club and how the players have taken to him and his staff.

100 mile cycle ride with Matt Ritchie around the New Forest when Matt was down here on a visit.

He thinks we have a good chance of promotion this season.

Plus lots more In 1 hour 6 minutes.

After listening to that, maybe the Charlton fans were not wrong about Simon after all.

It seems his move to AFCB and when Eddie came back and took charge of the team again, that ‘woke’ Simon up and Eddie brought the best out in him and that’s what we saw as Cherries fans.

Will be incredibly disappointing if Hughes is just replaced with Franno, with all due respect to Franno. It is arguably the most important role at the club, we are a PL team and should be looking to recruit someone with the required experience and knowledge/links to various European markets etc. replacing your technical director with his understudy is the behaviour of a league one/two club.

This is how Neil Dawson is going to deal with this news. Start slagging off someone else and pretend the whole Hughes obsession never happened.

Putting aside any agendas etc, it is a very valid point. Not meaning to slag Franno off, just don’t think a PL club should be recruiting someone with no experience of that role in arguably the most important position at the club. No other PL side would so why us?
