End of an era.....saw him as a foal as I did with all of his dams offspring....Urban Sea was undoubtedly the greatest broodmare that ever lived....
Maybe a minutes applause using coconut shells : )
That would be true of most mares that Northern Dancer and his sons Sadlers Wells and Galileo covered but it didn't matter what Stallion she went to tbh..for instance she went to a middle of the road Stallion like Cape Cross and produced Sea the Stars. That may be so, however for me the Northern Dancer influence on the male side was far more important!

If you look at the pedigree of a lot of useless stallions you will see Northern Dancer tbf.If you look at the pedigree of Cape Cross, you will see Northern Dancer!

It's very difficult to get away from the Northern Dancer line tbh .... you talking tens of thousands of horses ....his son Sadlers Wells and Galliio were also incredible sires.....but they were given 150-200 of the best broodmares every season...... without those quality mares how successful would they have been?If you look at the pedigree of top class stallions (over the Derby distance of a mile and a half) it is very likely that Northern Dancer makes at least one appearance!
Treve - the horse that won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe two years in succession was essentially an in-bred horse in that Northern Dancer made three separate appearances in Treve's geneaology!
That's the one I was what I was thinking about tbh.........well done .I know All Too Beautiful came second to Ouija Board, but I'm stumped on this one as well.
[QUOTE="Topfarrier, post: 525972,....Urban Sea had 2 winners of the Derby from just the handful of colts she produced!.....not just any Derby winners either ...two absolute greats......she also had an Oaks winmer from her fillies....Great Stallions are made by great mares.
