Galileo

End of an era.....saw him as a foal as I did with all of his dams offspring....Urban Sea was undoubtedly the greatest broodmare that ever lived....

Don't see why not!

In the past we seem to had have a minutes silence before games for high profile/famous players who had sadly died but who appeared to have no connection with the club whatsoever!

Therefore a minutes silence for a famous horse would seem to be just as relevant!

That may be so, however for me the Northern Dancer influence on the male side was far more important!
That would be true of most mares that Northern Dancer and his sons Sadlers Wells and Galileo covered but it didn't matter what Stallion she went to tbh..for instance she went to a middle of the road Stallion like Cape Cross and produced Sea the Stars.

If you look at the pedigree of Cape Cross, you will see Northern Dancer!

If you look at the pedigree of a lot of useless stallions you will see Northern Dancer tbf.

If you look at the pedigree of top class stallions (over the Derby distance of a mile and a half) it is very likely that Northern Dancer makes at least one appearance!

Treve - the horse that won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe two years in succession was essentially an in-bred horse in that Northern Dancer made three separate appearances in Treve's geneaology!

It's very difficult to get away from the Northern Dancer line tbh .... you talking tens of thousands of horses ....his son Sadlers Wells and Galliio were also incredible sires.....but they were given 150-200 of the best broodmares every season...... without those quality mares how successful would they have been?
90 per cent of all stakes winners are out of stakes winning mares...... if we're talking about the Derby Northern Dancer had 3 winners from thousands of off spring...... Sadlers Wells had 2 and Galliio had 5 winners of the race... that's out of literally thousands of offspring.....Urban Sea had 2 winners of the Derby from just the handful of colts she produced!.....not just any Derby winners either ...two absolute greats......she also had an Oaks winmer from her fillies....Great Stallions are made by great mares.

Out of interest what was the name of that Oaks winner please? Thanks.
