As I suspected we are the worst in the league for shots on target against per goal conceded, and this was BEFORE last night's 3 goals from 3 shots!

This either means:
1) Begovic doesn't save enough - which I don't think is right, he's had a good season and made some excellent saves, particularly 1 on 1.
2) We are more 'gung-ho' in defence and dive in a bit, so give the opposition more clear-cut chances instead of pushing them wide etc - potentially the case
3) We've been feckin unlucky with opposition players either finding the corners or deflections - think this is the case!!

Team Shots on Target Against per Goal
Bournemouth 2.54
Southampton 2.68
Huddersfield 2.71
Everton 2.73
Watford 2.79
Fulham 2.79
Crystal Palace 3.00
Man United 3.03
Burnley 3.07
Leicester 3.09
Cardiff 3.16
Newcastle 3.19
Arsenal 3.23
Man City 3.25
West Ham 3.47
Brighton 3.52
Chelsea 3.69
Wolves 3.74
Tottenham 4.14
Liverpool 6.63

Since this post we've conceded 6 goals from a total 6 shots on target in 2 games. Which takes our average in league and FA cup to 2.3 now.

So we concede a goal for almost every other shot on target against us. That is just crazy! Maybe we switch to a 6-3-2 formation with no keeper....

Dog defence, keepers haven't helped at times either. Begovic very jekyll and hyde can pull of a world class saves but can also let in strange goals. Boruc, good servant but he flapped today and showed why hes not no.1 but equally you do need a good defence. Cook has to cut out the errors as does Charlie, Rico or whoever is FB.
I look at the saves Ben Foster made the other night and doubt either our keepers would've saved as they're not agile enough even though Foster is quite old himself.

We cannot defend adequately with ' our style/system' against the speed of play in the PL, against better than average sides. It worked great in the other leagues and will occasionally against off-form PL sides. The lack of clean sheets is the indication of this!

Today - 3 shots on target against us, 2 goals conceded. Starting to think we've got a serious problem with concentration in our defence.

By comparison, De Gea made 11 saves today and United kept a clean sheet!

This absolutely. We look fine for the majority of most games but it is just lapses in concentration at the back time and time again that is costing us. Teams know that if they probe us enough eventually one of our defenders will switch off and make a costly error. Unfortunately we don't have a gk who is good enough to bail us out when this happens.

Everton are off form and were awful and they still scored two goals.
We have a problem at the other end too.

The marking for the first goal was non-existent. The second was a break while we were looking to equalise. At times the defence seemed absent, at other times superb. Need consistency, hopefully with Smith back and Clyne coming in we'll improve a bit.

Simple then isn't it, we just need to sign De Gea....

Just as well Begovic was 'good enough' against Brighton in the League game otherwise we would be 3 points worse off....Agree in principal with your mail....I dont think we defend as a team, individually players seem Ok.....but as a unit we are all over the place
