January Transfer Window 2025

Very surprised we couldn't get some out of favour striker somewhere in on loan - with the knowledge they'd be in a team full of confidence, playing in a way that guarantees them chances/goals. Also the side chance they'd be signed permanently. Obviously I personally don't know of any we could have gone for, but it's not my job to know.

I'm sure the club has tried, but considering even the diplomatic Andoni was talking about how we need a striker I hope this lack of action doesn't cost us from completing a truly memorable season.

It's been the most exciting Premier League season we've had. I'm loving every minute of it and will do whether we make Europe or not.
Judging by this window, Bill doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get us into Europe. I think he must feel confident that we will be in a better place to achieve that next season or the season after, should we not make it this season.

It already looks like we will have another record breaking season this season, European football or not. That's not to be sniffed at.

I don't think he's bothered about a few of the big six having a bad season this season. He must be confident that when we have the squad where we want it to be, we will be capable of beating everyone and also much better placed to give Europe a proper go.

I do feel for Andoni and the few fit players that we have left but hopefully a few of the walking wounded will be back to help out fairly soon. We'll still have a thin squad but we will have options to rotate and add something from the bench.

I think we will see some proper squad building in the summer.
I can see a few of our better players going for big money, freeing up funds for us to add a bit more depth for the seasons to come.

I'm actually quite happy to see us being sensible and not throwing everything at trying to get into Europe this season. We should build gradually and make sure that we maintain the right balance in the squad and do not get into FFP problems.

Strange window.. ...the loaning out of Billing makes no sense whatsoever....but we've got what we've got.....hopefully we get a bit of luck regarding injuries for the rest of the season
I think with Philip Billing, Max Aarons and Mark Travers, when you listen to Andoni Iraola when asked with our injuries etc why have we let these players go, he mentions you have to also think of what is best for the player.

The main consensus is they wanted playing time which they were not guaranteed at our club, so were allowed to go.

Out of the three, I wanted Travers to stay in case of any injury problems to Kepa.

Guessing Travers could have a recall option. With the injuries and inevitably suspensions incoming Billing might well have played more? It is what it is.

Apart from Manchester City and one or two other clubs who spent some money, other clubs have either not signed anyone or they are loans, some may have options to buy.

In the case of Eli Junior Kroupi, certain figures have been mentioned, but it has gone down as being undisclosed.

List of all signings by the clubs.

The Summer transfer window will probably as usual see a lot more action and we may lose one or two players that we would rather keep even if they are on contracts, because of get out clauses.

But so far most of our recent incomings have been good signings, so we can hope for some more like that in the Summer.

I’m not sure we’d have been better had Billing played though. Would he materially have changed any of the results in Jan?

He would most likely have only been brought on as a pair of fresh ( and extremely long ! ) legs late in the second half of matches.

Whether that would have made any difference to the Chelsea or Liverpool results is anybody's guess.

But no, I don't think he would have been starting and apparently, regularly coming on as a super-sub wasn't enough for him, hence his request to go out on loan.

I can understand why we agreed to let him go out on loan.
I also imagine that he is one of our higher earners, so there is that aspect to consider as well.

Still early days but don't think he's played a single minute for Napoli yet. Still, sitting on the bench of the team top of Serie A is definitely an upgrade on doing the same here. I don't think anyone could argue against that.

Thinking more in terms of having someone fit in the squad. The only result that really stings is that last minute equaliser from Chelsea. Mind you if you’d offered most cherry fans six points from 9 in a run from Newcastle, Forest and Liverpool they’d say yes please.

Do they have a minimum appearance quota to qualify for a medal if they win the league like they do here?

Our system relies on fresh legs late in the game and he made a positive impact in the sub appearances he made prior to leaving so it's not rocket science to suggest he'd have helped.

Would have liked the option of bringing him on to see the game out against Chelsea.....Christie was exhausted....which is why he made that clumsy challenge for the free kick.
Fine margins.

Yes. I think that he would have helped, because as you say, he was managing to help us every game, whenever he was called upon.
But whether his presence would have changed the Chelsea and Liverpool results is very much up in the air.

Ultimately I can understand that the financial aspect and Phil's desire for more minutes ( even if he isn't currently actually getting them ! ) or simply just a change, combined to make us view loaning him out ( with a potential sale at the end of it ) to be the better option.

I suspect that Andoni viewed things differently at the time but ultimately he probably also realised that we shouldn't stand in Phil's way if he was unhappy here ( which seems to have been the case ).
