Jordan Zemura

Not sure what % of players in the nations Cup now play in Europe, or how feasible it is plating it in European summer months due the climate and rudimentary stadiums used at times, never mind domes lol, but expect questions have been posed around moving it back a few months previously?

There's a list of 40 potential players from Premier League alone. Not sure if there is any chance of the tournament being cancelled, but it seems irresponsible to allow players to travel to / From Africa at the moment.

Has he travelled already?

Zimbabwe coach Norman Mapeza has announced a 30-man provisional squad for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021. The Warriors will gather on 23 December in Harare for a training camp ahead of the final squad announcement, set on 31 December 2021.

is going up a very big if?

if we do go up then chances of signing up are more than a marginal rise - both Anthony and JZ could quickly become lost at bigger clubs vs a more likely starting place here. At their age they want first team football

I think the 2 of them will do well in the Prem so we should push to get at their agents

COWS says that he is flying out after our Cardiff and Peterborough games to join up with the Zimbabwe squad KC. Presumably he wasn't required to join their training camp and has been named in the final squad, so only has to be there for the start of the actual tournament.

Think this was similar to the three QPR players, their manager thought but wasn’t sure at the time they would be leaving on Boxing Day and missing our game.

As we saw they played.

SCOTT Parker confirmed Jordan Zemura would be available for Cherries' next two fixtures, after reaching an agreement with Zimbabwe regarding his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Left-back Zemura has recently returned to action with Cherries following a near two-month lay-off due to an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old was one of the stars of the season for Parker's side, before being struck down at the end of October.

He returned to feature in each of the past two matches, and will again be available to face Cardiff City tomorrow night and Peterborough United on Monday evening.

Bloody Parker, ruining his International career...

But it's also on COWS, a more reliable source, don't read that rag ;)
He is flying out to participate in the tournament, following these two games, as stated here !

The reason I put those paras from the Echo story it mentions they came to an agreement with Zimbabwe. :grinning:
Yes, seems clear that they reached an agreement to maximise his time here. His training here will probably be better than anything he gets with them, we're in the middle of our season, so he is match fit and clearly he is an important player for the club, so really a no-brainer that he'd be allowed to turn up at the last minute to take part in the tournament.

Let's hope Zimbabwe are hopeless and he can come back quickly and most importantly of all, unscathed !:thumbup::thumbup:

Looking at the AFCON schedule if Zimbabwe get knocked out in the first group stage he could potentially only miss one league game although will only have 3 days recovery to the game on the 22nd so may not be risked with flying etc.

I believe only one team gets knocked out of the group stage, so the odds are pretty slim.

needs to speak to Jeff about whatever meds he uses...

Looking at groups/rankings, they're 3rd favourites in their group. one of the lower ranked sides in the tournament, so hoepfully they will go out after group stage... lowest ranked 3rd seed out of all the groups, only 2 places above 4th seed Malawi in same group. I assume that Zemura is relatively new to national side, so rankings may be 'false' reflection now they have his quality amongst them :D

Group A - Cameroon (58), Burkina Faso (62), Cape Verde (77) and Ethiopia (134)
Group B - Senegal (20 - the highest ranked African country), Guinea (76), Zimbabwe (113) and Malawi (115)
Group C - Morocco (33), Ghana (53), Gabon (88) and Comoros (133)
Group D - Nigeria (34), Egypt (48), Guinea-Bissau (105) and Sudan (127)
Group E - Algeria (30), Ivory Coast (54), Sierra Leone (108) and Equatorial Guinea (131)
Group F - Tunisia (25), Mali (61), Mauritania (104) and Gambia (149)

The rules initially dictated that clubs would have to release their players no later than the Monday morning the week proceeding the tournament's start, in this case December 27. But CAF agreed players whose clubs have matches between December and January 3 can be involved before joining up with their national squads.
The earliest possible release date for any nation is January 20, when the groups come to an end.
